hi. most of the interesting summer programs i’ve looked at all require at least 2 teacher recommendations. i’m a very shy, quiet person in classes. i don’t feel comfortable asking teachers I bare know to write recommendations when i barely talk in there classes. i’m a very good writer and i can handle writing essays. i also have a pretty good transcript. are there slightly prestigious programs, i can do this summer? I’m very interested in history and english? does anyone know of any history related volunteer/research programs? thanks.

I belive William & Mary has an excellent summer program in American history - [A Summer Program in Early American History for High School Students | NIAHD](http://www.wm.edu/niahd/precollegiate.php) Also, take a look at Landmark Volunteers - [Volunteer work for teens - Landmark Volunteers.](http://www.volunteers.com/)

My daughter did the program at Jamestown/Yorktown a few years ago and had a great time. This does require a teacher or advisor recommendation, so take the opportunity to catch a teacher before or after school and let them know a little about you and why you want to pursue whatever program you are interested in.
