I’m interested in a summer program in 2016. I’m an 8th grade honor student with a 12.0 GPA (4.0) so I’m currently taking 3 high school courses (Algebra 1, Biology, and Spanish 2). In October, I’m going to take the ACT too.
I’m interested in almost all topics and don’t want to spend too much money. Also, if possible I would want it to look good ro colleges.
What programs do you suggest?
You can browse programs on mysummeradvisor.com There is a tab to look at academic programs and you can focus on a topic of interest. There are thousands. If there are colleges or universities near you, they probably have day summer programs that would be affordable. There are also a lot of free programs. Some places offer financial aid for students from low-income backgrounds.
I wouldn’t worry too much about picking a program that “looks good”. Try for something that will help you develop your interests. A summer program can also be a good way to get to know a college really well. It can help you decide what you are looking for in a college (size, location, etc.).
There’s a new summer program at Yale for current high school juniors: yspa.yale.edu. It’s focused on science and computer programming.
