Hi! I would like to apply to college for mechanical engineering. I am currently going into my sophomore year. Someone told me that one of the main things that matter is summer programs, but I don’t know any to apply to. Of course, it’s too late for this summer, but what about for after sophomore year and after junior year? What should I be looking at? Thank you!
My D was an engineering major. We never heard anyone say that summer programs were a “main thing”. Do well in your classes and do ECs you enjoy!
If you’d like to do a summer program to gain more exposure to what engineering is all about, many colleges have programs. They won’t help you with college admission but they could help you decide if that’s what you really want to study.
Purdue has a program for rising seniors called STEP. Rose Hulman has a program called Operation Catapult. And there are many others! If there are universities near you, start there to see what they offer in the summer.
