Ok, I am really really interested in bioology/biochem. Does anyone know any good Summer Programs that have to do with these subjects. I kinda need to find a place that offers scholarships because I can no way afford it. Ty

These are all for various areas of STEM careers but most of them have specific concentrations in biology/biochemistry, and they’re also all free (or basically free) or they pay you a stipend. Hope this helps! :)

These are all GREAT! But Im a freshman, and all of them require you being a sophmore. Any other suggestions?

Freshman year is a great time to go to those summer camps, like CIG or Johns Hopkins.

For a more fun, less rigorous experience I would suggest Brown’s Summer@Brown pre-college program. I found the class I took extremely easy (although I was a year older than you and I was one of the only kids who thought so). I took Intro to Biochem which aligns with your interests perfectly. You also have time to experience college life since class is only 3 hours a day if you take one, which contributed partially to the overall easiness of the program since you had a lot of extra time to study if needed. My roommate was a rising soph and loved it, as did I! I also know they do give out scholarships; I just don’t know how much/how often.

Or, if you want a less structured summer, try recruiting one of your science teachers or a local college professor to supervise you as you do an original research project. This sort of thing got a kid at my school the Morehead scholarship a few years back. It also puts you in a great position for summer programs the next two years (Clarks Scholars comes to mind).

Seriously I would suggest doing research with a local prof. You could continue researching with that same prof during the year if you have time and hopefully gain more senior positions over every summer.

As someone who did both research and Summer@Brown last summer, the local prof would probably be more useful but Brown or some sort of precollege thing would definitely be more of a “fun” summer experience. You have to decide which one is more worth it to you. You have time to do research and you have to decide if you have the courage to email a prof so young. I started my research summer between soph and junior year and I was a Siemens semifinalist (only a junior so I couldn’t enter Intel). Just as a little anecdote…
