Summer reading for AP Art History

I’m taking art history in the fall and I need to choose a book to read over the summer that I have to do a book report on. Ideally, I’d like one that will give me my first overview of art history as I know literally nothing about it. Getting the basics in before class starts is my priority. I’d like a book that links history into art history if possible as my history background is fairly weak too.

Any suggestions will be more than welcome!

I’ve compiled a list of books that many AP art history teachers recommend for summer reading. Check on this link, [Famous Paintings Reviewed](http://www.themasterpiececards.com/famous-paintings-reviewed/), under the “Blogroll” for the post titled “Art History Books”.

A great introduction to art history is “The Annotated Mona Lisa”, which is a survey of art history that also incorporates history. It’s also part of many AP art history curricula.

Good luck, and enjoy the class!

Sorry this is SO late but if you’re still not in school yet I recommend Art History for Dummies. This is one of the books I first read on the topic and it made it very approachable.
