I read on another thread that Pitt is requiring incoming freshmen to read “Oryx and Crake” by Margaret Atwood this summer. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Yes, that information is correct. However, it’s not technically a “required” reading. You won’t be tested on it or anything. I believe there may be some optional lectures/events at the beginning of the semester centered around the novel, but again they are optional. Also if you end up signing up for our Intro to Arts and Sciences class (FP 0001) the instructor may have you read a part of or the whole book. It varies, but just know that no one’s going to punish you if you don’t read it!

Oryx and Crake is a really good book-and a good summer read in any event- its a futuristic sci fi novel about genetic engineering gone bad- there is definitely a lot to discuss in this book, including the ending- I’d highly recommend it!
