My son has a summer internship in Portland and is looking for a sublet or share for June/July. He’ll be working in downtown area and is hoping to find something in Southeast, or anywhere within walking distance or convenient public transportation. He’ll try Craig’s list of course but would appreciate any other suggestions.

Try VRBO. While VRBO rentals are typically priced by the day or by the week, most owners will discount longer stays - typically 25-50% off for stays of a month or more.

Has he looked at airbnb.com?

My daughter also has an internship in Portland this summer. She will be offered a homestay. We are waiting to hear (soon, I hope?) the details of that arrangement.

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions.

There is also a hostel on Hawthorne where I have stayed(south east).
They are pretty community oriented so they may also have ideas for lOnger term housing.

MODERATOR’S NOTE: You can make general suggestions to the OP about housing, but you can’t arrange housemates on CC - it’s not CraigsList.

Also try dammportlanders on live journal - the Reed group may also
Need summer sub letters but don’t remember what their lj group is called. (I am on my phone)

When my son had an internship in Atlanta about two years ago and he had no car and no public transport available since he was out of the main town he found a little college nearby his work, a place where he could walk to a store, and contacted the housing department. He ended up rooming with kids he didn’t know and it worked fine.

How old is he? If he wants to be in areas that are young adult friendly he should look at Sellwood. He would, however, need a car. A closer to downtown area and that he could use the Trolley and still be with young people would be anywhere near NW 21st- and 23rd between Burnside and Thurman/Vaughn. If you find something and want to know a local’s opinion just email me.
