<p>I wrote a research paper on the “rotability” of planar parallelograms in two dimensions. Submitted it to Siemens, but didn’t make Semifinalist. Now waiting to hear from Intel STS.</p>
<p>I spent a week in the Canadian arctic doing field research with the Canadian Wildlife Service, Macevick ( the Innuktitut Government for the area), and the United States Fish and Wildlife service. We flew around in helicopters to get to the locations and compiled data on the nests from a bunch of study sites. Also, I am currently working with a grad student from the University of Delaware on a research project to determine the carrying capacity of New Jersey’s wetlands for wintering black ducks (core sampling, attatching radio transmitters to the birds, flying around in planes to track them, all that good stuff) :)</p>
<p>I spent a summer researching the causes of osteoporosis at a Veteran’s Affairs Geriatrics center.</p>

<p>would an actual, solid research experiment in a science lab carry more weight than doing a paper on some historical event, etc?</p>
<p>I think its more of the depth in which you pursue your research that counts, and the passion in which you do it. For example, pk, I think you’re in a great position; you are planning on majoring in molecular biology (right?) and you did quite an impressive study on those mouse embryonic stem cells. I’m pretty sure that’s going to stand out when the admin officers read it.</p>
<p>Hm, I got invited to work at a lab. Would that look better than applying for a position? And yeah, 20 hr/week really is a LOT… even if you spread that out each day, it’d be 3 or four hours EACH DAY. whoa.
Well, at my school national history day (you guys know that?) is mandatory. Plus I’m doing outside mol bio research.</p>
<p>I do a lot of research over the summer. My last paper was about the ills of America’s criminal justice system, it was so boring.</p>
<p>Mine is about nanobiochemistry.
I did it over summer and really spent a lot of time on it (50hr/week for 10 weeks) And no, I didn’t take weekends off. I actually kind of forced my mentor to work on weekends…</p>
<p>I did a project regarding the physics involved in pitching a baseball. Developed a computer program that graphs different pitches at various angular and linear velocities. Anyone else going to San Francisco in the spring for the American Junior Academy of Science?</p>

Specifically, I am researching my school’s varsity soccer and baseball teams starting about 70 years ago. (hey, it may sound weird, but it certainly falls under the “research category”)
It’s a little different than the medical research that i’m also involved in, I know, but I’m hoping that admissions officers will find it atleast somewhat different/interesting</p>
