Yeah, I put Westmont as my preference but said I could attend either. Why?

since both accepted waitlisters got into NM, i was wondering if they both put Ojai as their preference. i put westmont, too

Ughhh… i thought I had a chance because I got that good update email last week but now i’m not feeling so great about it

right there with you =

Are there someone who from bay area will go to CA site?

Hey guys, I just withdrew (I was at Westmont) to do research with my teacher this summer… Good luck to all of you! :)

Thank you!

=D / =C
i’ll look for you last class! (i won’t be there either next week, i have to go get slaughtered at nat’l science bowl.)

Last class it is! I have an AP practice test the next class anyway :/

hm… I just realized that one of my friends who goes to the same school as I do got accepted.

Does anybody know if SSP tracks the high school that we attend and limits the number of participants per school?

I sure hope not, as I think (thanks to me raving about how fun SSP would be) he plans to attend xD

So, has anyone on the alternate list heard anything from Mr. Bowdon lately? The week’s nearly over…

I was expecting all of our final decisions to get sent out today, seeing as everything else was sent out on a thursday, but nothing yet.

I’m checking my email every 15 minutes xD
It’s starting to look like it may be taking them longer than they had thought.

I’m still clinging on to that last shred of hope…

Ugh, this is torturous…

maybe ssp admissions figured out which applicants have CC accounts and now they’re just ■■■■■■■■ us all

So the week’s over… :(

I find it difficult to imagine a universe in which spinnercat isn’t at least very near the top of the alternate list. On the other hand, I find it difficult to imagine a universe in which spinnercat isn’t accepted regular and apparently that’s this one…

sorry for the double post:

Dear BalticSea,
I am now able to tell you now that it is still possible – although not likely – that you will be offered a spot in SSP in the next week or so. Let’s call it a 20% chance.
As before, if you have already committed to something else, please reply and tell me so.
Best regards,
Richard Bowdon
SSP Executive Director

I am now able to tell you now that it is still possible – although not likely – that you will be offered a spot in SSP in the next week or so. Let’s call it a 20% chance.

I am sad.

Dear Person,

I am now able to tell you now that it is very unlikely that you will be offered a spot in SSP this summer. Therefore, I strongly suggest that you make other plans if you have not already.

Applications to SSP have grown significantly in recent years, while enrollment has remained capped at 72 since 2003. This year applications increased 25% to over 667, after a 69% increase last year. Therefore our admission rate has dropped below 15%.

Since you are an excellent student, you may wonder why you were not admitted, or what you could have done differently in your application. Unfortunately it is not possible for us to offer personal feedback to individual applicants. But be aware that our admissions decision, as for a college, is inherently subjective, especially when there are several highly qualified applicants for each opening. Besides academic preparation, other factors must come into play, such as whether we believe the applicant to be a “good fit” to our particular program.

It may not seem like much consolation, but I have attached some general advice that may be useful when you apply to college.

We appreciate that you made a significant effort to prepare your application, which will serve you well when you apply to colleges. Although this outcome may be disappointing for you, we strongly encourage you to continue your scientific studies during this summer and beyond.

Best regards,
Richard Bowdon
SSP Executive Director

I feel horrible :(
