summer sessions at berkeley or stanford?

how hard is it to get into high school summer programs at berkeley or stanford?
i really want to go to one of these schools one day and i am going to apply to their summer programs for high school students.
how selective are these schools in this process?

I went to ATDP classes (at Berkeley) for four summers. I’d say not too competitive, b/c it seems that everyone who can pay gets in. You have to write some short essay, send in STAR results, and get a letter of rec. I don’t know anyone who got rejected. It’s six weeks long, so some of the more intensive classes (ie. AP and math ones) get REALLY intensive.

As for Stanfurd’s program, my brother considered applying. It’s eight weeks long, and unlike Berkeley you can live on campus. I’m guessing it’s less competitive, since the application dates are in May and June, a few weeks before classes begin, whereas ATDP wants your stuff by February. Perhaps ATDP is just a bigger program and needs more time to look over apps, but I doubt it.

you can live on campus at berkeley. i knew some people in my classes last summer that did that.

if money is not a problem for you, definitely stanford hssc.
