Can anybody give feedback of experiences with Sublet.com vs Craigslist?

My son and friends are looking for a summer sublet in Boston, hopefully near the T. Ideally they could stay together in one big place, but Craigslist options are limited. They may need to split up into groups of one or two to fill vacancies found on Craigslist. To me that sounds like the easiest option.

They are also considering signup for Sublet.com to investigate other leads. I think he said the fee is $28. Any thoughts?

I’ve heard that colleges have sublet websites too. If you know of ones open to the public, please post or PM me. Thanks!

I would go with CL. Have him post an ad saying they are looking for a summer sublet, and keep checking the ads. I’m guessing there are lots of kids who live off campus that will want to sublet their space for the summer. Kids don’t plan that far in advance, even though it is only a month away.

I’ve had good luck using university housing web sites or online classified ads on university web sites.

Tuftslife.com if they’re ok with being in Medford/Somerville on the red line. Scroll down for the sublet listings.

If this is for an internship? MIT, Northeastern U, BU, Suffolk also have appts available on their campus. Specifically for students not currently enrolled in that specific college that is offering the housing. Must have internship. Google “summer intern housing”

Also some real estate companies in Boston also deal with sublets.

Thanks! Yes, this is for an internship. My first hit was for Northeastern. It is pricey ($295/week and up… ha, same as we pay for dorms now) but flexible.

MIT is slightly cheaper and offers rates by the day. That could be helpful for students bridging partial months - [Accommodations & Rates | MIT Housing](<a href=“Housing & Residential Services | Division of Student Life”>Housing & Residential Services | Division of Student Life)

During the two summers when D and her friends (all females) had internships in Cambridge (non-MIT), they rented a room at an MIT fraternity. At first I was somewhat unsure if it would be a good idea, but she (i) knew the guys who were in charge, (ii) it was not too expensive, and (iii) in April, the available choices were not that plentiful. In the end, it worked just fine. Possibly another source of housing to investigate?

Thanks Ognopgod! My D is looking for housing in Atlanta this summer and your response in this thread prompted me to look and I found that Georgia Tech offers housing specifically for non GT students with Atlanta based intership offers!

CM,

In a few days I’ll let you know if the worm already has someone to sublet his place in Cambridge. He will be gone 3 months. He lives with 2 other grad students, and I don’t know their plans. He lives in a house between MIT and Harvard Sq.

Thanks, bw

Here’s a 3rd link (thanks to the hint from opnogod). At BU you can live in a double apartment for $2500 for 12 week session, starting 5/20.[Summer internship housing » BU Housing » Boston University](Boston University Summer Internship Housing | Summer Internship Housing)

DS still wants to try for the apartment experience, but it is good to know about these options.
