Summer Teaching Position Worth It?

Currently, I am working as a summer intern at walter reed where I teach disadvantaged DC students high school science in order to potentially get them interested in careers in science. I also have a small research project on the side with a PI involving chemical warfare nerve agents (as this is a place of army research).

Now my question is that will this look favorable to adcoms as opposed to solely doing research? Am I wasting my time (in terms of admission to med schools) by teaching kids instead of doing more medically related things?

As this is only a summer position (which I plan on resuming next summer as well), I plan on doing research with a cardiologist at my university’s medical school during the school year. BTW I am entering my sophomore year of school.
