Where are the best places to stay in the Adirondacks or Berkshires? Are there things to do in the Finger Lakes area? Thanks.
Love Banff, but the higher elevations will still be pretty snowed in still at the beginning of June which will make some of the best hikes not really possible.
Finger Lakes - lots to do - waterfalls, gorges, lakes and wineries. Some great places to stay and eat in Ithaca.
But, it’s not particularly cool that time of year.
If you have two weeks how about a little of everything? Niagara Falls, Toronto, Montreal/Quebec for some hiking and city life.
Do you like hotel/fancy or more basic?
My fondest memories of the Adirondacks are from staying at the Sagamore hotel in Lake George. A big splurge but it is a classic old school elegant resort with a gorgeous pool overlooking the lake, a sandy beach area, etc. Walking distance to “town” with nice restaurants, very close to amazing trail hikes, there is a kayak rental place adjacent to the hotel. Also a fun rec center with mini golf, a climbing wall, etc. (all free) and movie nights with popcorn.
But there is every kind of hotel/motel in the Lake George area. The Adirondack park is HUGE and I’ve only been in the places closet to Albany… someone else can advise you on the more remote/wild areas.
Another vote for Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Emerald Lake. There will also be tons of daylight.
If you want a bit more city, vancouver and Whistler could work.
Grand Teton Park is full of wildflowers at that time, iirc. Easy access from Jackson Hole.
Emerald Lake- forgot about this absolutely stunning place!!!
Emerald Lake and Moraine Lake are both awesome places to stay near Banff.
Banff? Lovely village and lovely topography - perfect if you are a hiker. Oops, guess I should have read all the responses first - oh well, a second for Banff! Been there in summer and Christmas - either way, gorgeous and lovely village.
Is that Mammoth Lakes area? How far is that from Yosemite?
Yes that’s right. Its about 30-40 mins from Lee Vining where you go up the canyon to Tuolumne Meadows (~60 mins from Mammoth to the Yosemite entrance, note there may be entry passes you need to book in advance, but they don’t sell out too quickly and last for multiple days). Definitely doable for a day, they usually try to open the road for Memorial Day weekend unless its a very heavy snow year. But the trip to Yosemite Valley is much longer (at least 2.5 hours each way). You can see down to Half Dome etc from Olmstead Point (at the west end of Tenaya Lake), which is about 90 mins from Mammoth (and there’s a long but stunning day hike to Clouds Rest from there).
We hiked from Mammoth to Yosemite Valley in August:
Now my family said they want to go back to Acadia since they weren’t “real hikers” when we went. If we want to go somewhere more beachy for a few days afterwards, where do you recommend? I know we have a few Mainers on here. @MaineLonghorn @ChoatieMom
That would be fine. Or you could hike a portion of the Appalachian Trail.
Beach in Maine in early June? Head south to Old Orchard Beach. Or Popham Beach. Those are sandy. Many of the “beaches” in Maine are rocky.
@MaineLonghorn probably has the best suggestions.
It would be mid-June for the beach. C25 loves looking for sea glass. I like lighthouses and cute towns.
We aren’t beachy people. I’ll let @MaineLonghorn advise.
On our way to Acadia we stopped in Portland for a couple of days. Saw 5 light houses on a bike ride one day.
Is Deer Isle worth a visit? Any other must see coastal towns or hikes? Thanks!
My favorite coastal town is Camden ME. But really, let @MaineLonghorn weigh in.
I don’t know anything about Deer Island.
My husband went to Owls Head…which is the headquarters of the American Lighthouse Association. There is a light house there. Owls Head Light. Very pretty view if it’s a clear day.
About 45 minutes from Camden.
The Owls Head Transportation Museum is near there too.
There are beaches near there too. They are gravel beaches. Maybe @MaineLonghorn knows more.
