Summer visit, will we see typical Duke students?

We are going to visit Duke this summer (end of July). Do you think the students we see on campus will be representative of Duke students who are there the rest of the year?

I’ve read some other tips on here for touring the campus…like, be sure to see East Campus, but just wondered about differences in what we will see because it is summer.

Thanks!

No, you will only see a small portion of students and most of them will be living off campus. The seniors have gone, the freshmen have not arrived yet and few upperclassman take classes over the summer.

As far as other differences, it will be hot and humid - summer is a good time to be somewhere other than Durham.

You will likely see lots of students attending the Duke TIPS program for high school students.

I’ve been there several times during the summer and it is pretty quiet.

It is worth the trip, however, because you will want to see the beautiful campus and get a feel for the area.

If you will still be there by the beginning of August, you will see the freshmen coming in for pre-orientation trips/programs. Personally, I will be at duke starting august 6th for a 2 week backpacking trip with other freshmen!
