Summer Visits - Yea or Nay?

We’re just putting together our itinerary for visits, and as my son will need substantial financial aid, we’re trying to cast our net wide and look hard at a lot of schools. Because of school and other commitments, it’s looking like we will have to do at least some of our visits during August. I understand that the biggest con to this approach is not being able to see the campus in full swing, but are there any upsides? Anyone else BTDT with regard to trying to fit in visits on off-seasons?

We did this with 7D1…the biggest pro, IMO, is that you really get to spend time with AO. They don’t seem as pressured to get to their next appointment. That said, we also went to some of schools (that made “the cut”) in the fall.

Be sure to check with schools now to see what summer schedule is…IIRC, more than a few were closed for a few weeks in Aug.

went on my visits as late as possible, early january of the app year, and i think it helped them more recently remember who i was during adcom.

All my visits were over the summer. It was not ideal, but I had no choice due to travel logistics. If there’s no other option, it’s better than not visiting, but as mentioned above, check with the schools to see what their summer schedules are.
