<p>I was just curious as to whether any cc’ers (or children of cc’ers) got into Larry Summers’ freshman seminar on globalization for next semester.</p>
<p>Roommate applied, didn’t get in. From what I’ve heard the class is purely lotteried (a kid who wrote “I am a socialist” as his essay got in!). I’ve met a couple upperclassmen who took the seminar and liked it.</p>
<p>One of my friends here is an upperclassman who had Larry as his freshman advisor.</p>
<p>I have heard that it is not lotteried. There are a set of criteria that Summers’s staff uses to grade each essay and the top 40 scorers are then given to Summers to select himself.</p>
<p>I personally know of 2 people who got in.</p>
<p>That’s just nuts. As a freshman here as well, I don’t know of anyone who got in.</p>
<p>Thanks for the responses. My son applied but didn’t get in. He got in to another seminar that he’s happy with, and took a seminar first semester that he loved, so all is good. I was just curious about the selection process for Summers’ seminar.</p>

<p>I was in Law of the Internet, had a wonderful, dorky time + got some really cool perks (met some awesome law school profs, trip to NYC, etc)</p>
