Sundry of questions

I’ve picked tonight to decide between two colleges, and I’m leaning significantly towards WashU over University of Miami. I would appreciate some answers to help remove my reservations.

*If I major in engineering, could I be involved with film?
*Would I have open electives to take a few film courses if I want to, or would engineering completely fill them up even with some AP credit?
*Could I be involved in the campus TV station or radio station?
*What are the student jobs like for work study? Of course there are some choice ones, but are there any really bad ones? What do most people do for their job?
*How active are the student organizations? Specifically the chemistry, engineering (Encouncil), and math ones? Do they participate in national contests (like the Putnam)?

Thanks in advance.

Which engineering major are you interested in? You will definitely have some open electives, I’d check out the specific graduation requirements for the major you are interested in to see how many. A lot of the pages list mock schedules. AP credits definitely help though. I did a cs degree with a minor in theatre, and had no problem fitting in classes. However, some of the degrees, like chem e, are a little bit more scheduled.

You can definitely be involved in tv or radio.

A lot of the work study jobs involve sitting at a desk somewhere where you can do your homework. However, if you are looking for something more fun they are out there.

enCouncil is fairly active, I can’t speak to the others.

I know the math team competes in the Putnam…I believe they came in 9th in the most recent competition.

I’m looking to do chemical engineering. I checked the open electives, and the only ones that I have real freedom of choice are in the humanities and social sciences. I don’t think film falls under that.

Thanks both of you for the info!
