I’m a undergraduate student trying to transfer to SUNY Albany from community college.
I came to the US on my senior year of high school, so I only attended high school here for one year. Upon graduation, I went to CC for a degree in Computer Science. I will be receiving my associates degree from CC this July, and I’m hoping to get into PTK honor society in my last semester here.

During my 2 years of study, my main focus was getting good grades in school, improving my English, and getting better at Math. My current GPA in college is 3.72. Making money was not a big concern to me.

Since I arrived to the states, I have only landed 2 part-time jobs at fast-food restaurants. I held on to the two jobs for a very short period of time; less than a month.

My question is: In the SUNY Albany Part II application, there a section to write Work experience in. Of course the two part-time jobs I had for a short time are not something to brag about.

I’m worried that it will make my application look bad, and I know it will make me look like a lazy and clumsy person. I have no idea what to write in that section.

First, I must complement you on your english. Within a short span of time you quite mastered the language.

Concerning your application to Suny Albany, I’ll say that you are more than a qualified applicant. Most states school do not require essays or lof. I take it you apply through common app? I recommend you could use suny.edu instead. It’s faster and doesn’t ask for essay/ec’s etc.

Just put down the two jobs you have had. It’s not going to hurt you in the least. They are not expecting students to have great jobs. Or as WIlleeum suggests, use the SUNY app. Though doesn’t Albany have a supplement they want if you use that? My son applied there two years ago and I see to remember a supplement with some short answer questions. His jobs were not anything special either and along the same line. Don’t worry about that. Your college grades will be the determining factor.

Thank you for the response, Willeeum and cptofthehouse.
As a matter of fact, I have used the SUNY app, but SUNY Albany requires that I fill out their own supplemental application (Part II app) after submitting the SUNY app. That’s where I was asked to write a brief personal statement and provide any work experience/additional information.

Nonetheless, I will mention those two jobs I have had and hope for the best.
Thanks for your help.

One more question: I’m a Green Card holder (Permanent resident), does this make me an international student? I’m only asking because when I finished the SUNY app; it showed me the following message: “Other things to consider - Did you send in your international forms?”

You shouldn’t have anything to worry about. With a 3.7 you are more than qualified for SUNY Albany. I would even try to apply to a better SUNY like Binghamton, Stony Brook, or Geneseo - unless you’re looking for a specific program offered at Albany. Also, Albany’s retention rate is extremely low so they take in a lot of transfers.
