Just an FYI for future applicants. We took the Amtrack, 8 hour ride to Buffalo the train was very comfortable going there. It made a lot of stops in between at places like Rochester, Syracuse, Pouhkipsie, Albany. It is half an hour a way from Niagra falls.
The school was really big (North Campus). We were able to tour the school without going outside much. The buildings are all connected with enclosed walkways.
If you get selected wear a suit or blazer. I know they said business casual but most of the kids had on full suits or blazers. Wear comfortable shoes because you may be doing a tour before or after your interview. The tour was only about one hour though so you should be ok either way. If for some reason you absolutely cannot make it for the interview, they do offer accommodations and you can do it through SKYPE.
I think it was well worth the trip to see how the honors college students interact and they had some professors in various subject areas talk to students and parents. It was also great seeing the area. We took one of the shuttles to see the South campus.
UBuff is huge but I feel that it had lots of opportunities. I think if you are in the honors college it would make the school feel a lot smaller. I think if you and t to something int he medical feel or sciences it would be a great place.
Too late to edit but I meant “ In the medical field”.
My son had the interview in the end of January did anyone get notice of the decision yet?
Our daughter received a a small white envelope in the mail from UB this morning. She just came home a short while ago, opened it and found out that she was awarded a Presidential Scholarship! We are thrilled! GO BULLS!
On a side note, she received her FA award letter from SUNY Binghamton last night. They offered her ZERO in merit scholarships! GO BULLS!
Congratulations Huntyeraws1…Go Bulls. Hope to hear either way soon. We didn’t hear from Bing yet either. I don’t know anyone who received money from Bing.
@Huntyeraws1 Congratulations on the scholarship. We have not received any notification either. It is my understanding that Binghampton does not give merit scholarships to instate students, that money is used to attract out of state students.
@holychild and @chickmate3 Thanks! We live a little more than an hour from UB and I think that the US mail was able to deliver the letter to us in two days. Hopefully your kids will receive an envelope with some great news in today’s mail.
For those that didn’t get it, BE EXTREMELY PROUD OF YOUR STUDENT. I really mean this. I speak from experience as we have been there. Our older son didn’t even make it to interview stage back when he applied for this very competitive scholarship in January of 2018. More than likely, your son or daughter was already accepted into UB and the Honors program and was recognized by UB with a very generous merit award. Our experience is that UB is very generous in offering merit awards to hard working students with excellent academics and test scores. Even without a Presidential Scholarship, UB was our daughters top choice based upon program curriculum, research opportunities, Honors, clubs, campus life, and cost.
GO BULLS!
I am happy to report we got the letter today. DC got the Presidential scholarship, had gotten the provost scholarship so $20,000.00 total. Also got into Geneseo today.
Congratulations to your student @holychild! You may want to re-read the special note at the bottom of the Presidential award letter that states “This scholarship supersedes and replaces any other UB Admissions scholarship offers previously received”
@Huntyeraws1 this is what I love about CC. There is always someone to set me straight. Thanks for pointing that out. I admit I did’nt read the whole thing, just the first two paragraphs.
