SUNY Purchase vs. SUNY Albany

Which is better, which is worst? How is Purchase measured up to any other college, is it more or less selective? Comments and opinions are welcome!

I can’t link to it but if you go to College Results Online you can compare the schools including 4 year graduation rates (Albany 51% and Purchase 38%). Albany has a higher admissions rate (56% vs. 30%) but expects only slightly higher standardized test scores so admission rate might be due to size. Locally Purchase is thought of as an arty, not highly selective school except for a very few major maybe; UAlbany is known as large, party school with lots of major and class choices for students. Albany has more STEM and business choices if that is what is desired, while Purchase more media/art etc.

Albany and Purchase are two different kinds of schools. If you’re considering art, flim, or writing, you should probably consider Purchase. If you’re considering political science, business, accounting, history, psychology, or science then you should probably consider Albany.

Your comparing apples to oranges. UAlbany is a major research university that brought in $400 million dollars last year. Purchase is on the order of a liberal arts colleges. They are not comparable. Your major would drive the sort of college or university you should choose.
