Super score when it makes marginal difference?

Hi all,

I took the ACT twice and got 2 scores, a 33 and a 35.

The second test was better in everyway except for the Science section, which dropped from a 36 to a 35.

Is it worth sending both test scores, considering the cost incurred, given that the only difference it makes is a science section that goes from a 35 to 36?

Thanks in advance!

If you are applying to Stanford, Yale, Penn, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Harvey Mudd, or Bernard, you are required to provide all ACT scores althoough some of those allow you to put the scores in your application and have only the scores of one test sent by ACT.org. You should check the other colleges to which you are applying to see if they superscore ACTs, i.e., use the highest section scores from multiple tests to determine admission. Most do not but instead use that ACT with the highest composite and thus just sending the one test s fine. For those that superscore, you might consider sending both but if cost is an issue you can probably choose not to since the score you will send is high.

I guess I should specify.

This is for MIT, who does both score choice and super scoring.

For the schools that don’t allow score choice, I’m just going to go ahead and send both of my scores.

Cost isn’t a huge issue, but is the difference that the superscore makes really worth paying 12 dollars for?

for MIT, yes, it is worth the $12.
