I had to take my dog to the emergency vet , so I didn’t really see it…I did see some amazing local photos online !
Like others, it didn’t appear larger to me, but it was definitely brighter.
Saw it right on the horizon this morning. Nice.
Spectacular! I was driving when the moon rose, so I could not get a picture of it, but it was beautiful near Chicago, and very bright all the way into the evening. We were lucky to have clear weather.
It was cloudy, but I saw it break through a little and it was quite bright. Later, my 4 AM wake up happened as usual and the sky was clear. So very bright - even with lots of street lights. You could not see one star in the sky!
If it stays clear, I’m going to try to find a place to watch it rise. It will still be larger and brighter than usual tonight.
I saw it around 5:30 or 6 and it was gigantic. I got up around midnight to use the bathroom and noticed the moon was about normal size, just brighter.
So for those who have not yet looked, try early evening and you should be pleasantly surprised.
Moon is huge and bright again!
Absolutely striking again tonight- totally agree
I went out to walk the dog as some quick moving light clouds were sweeping past it - I literally stood and watched it.
@teriwtt , it’s only a tiny tiny bit closer than last month. You got a wonderful show in Oct. This whole super-moon thing has been overhyped. As Neil Degrasse Tyson explained on Twitter “Tonite’s SuperMoon is Super versus October’s FullMoon only if you think 16.05inch pizzas are Super relative to 16inch pizzas”
December’s will be about the same.
The moon’s orbit moves closer and farther on a long cycle .
On a related note, humans are around during the window of time when total solar eclipses work. Dinosaurs didn’t see them, the moon was too far away. At some point millions of years in the future the moon will be too close to block the sun. So be sure to watch next August. Or in 2024.
One moon photo in my FB newsfeed seemed to show more lunar surface features, turns out someone had stuck a flour tortilla to the window and photographed it against the night sky.
agree, @dragonmom. Definitely overhyped. The full moon is always beautiful, but less noticed usually. I’m with Neil Degrasse Tyson!
eta from an earlier comment so never mind
I am fascinated by any full moon. This couple of days, I haven’t had the best of views at moonrise, but it is bright and beautiful, fun to photograph, and a pleasant distraction from the rest of life.
So basically it was yuge, orange, and much discussed.
Agreeing with a point made by @dragonmom – If you’ve never seen a total solar eclipse, they are amazing. Supermoons are nice, partial solar eclipses are interesting. Total solar eclipses are jaw-dropping amazing. B-)
It was beautiful as it descended over east Seoul this morning. Beautiful.
Well, overhyped or not, I’m glad for any ordinary beauty. I was up all night that night with a dying cat, so I was looking for any reason for happiness. Last night there was a misty shimmer over it, which was lovely too. Thanks for all who shared.
