Supp essay- how long is too long?

My rough draft is about 700 words… how long of an essay can I get away with? What’s a reasonable length?

When you type it up using Times New Roman and 12pt font…how far down does it go in the second page?

Mine was about 500 words (a page and a half). I think you should limit it to two full pages.

Mine was 763 words, but it fit on one page, single-spaced, 12pt. Times New Roman. I guess I used short words.

It’s exactly 1 page single spaced, 12pt Times New Roman w/ 1" margins

HAHAHAA

If it fits on one page, and (more importantly) you feel that every word counts, it is as concise as possible, and taking away even one word would leave it in shambles, then it’s totally fine. It just better be good :p

You should be fine then…i wouldn’t go over 2 pages like sprezzatura said.

Beth’s advice is great. If you’re worried about it fitting one page, try editing the margins… lol if it’s whole, then leave it alone. a couple extra hundred words never killed anyone… right? lol

Unless it’s a truly exceptional essay, I think 2 pages is probably on the long side.

Keep in mind how many essays that adcoms are going to be reading. These people are human, not machines, and if it has a lot of “filler” they’re probably just going to glaze over it anyway.

Mine fit on one page, 12pt 1in spacing, yet didn’t fit on the online application which was weird (see my separate thread).

Garamond, baby. Garamond. My common app essay was 745 words, and wouldn’t have fit on one page but for the glory of Garamond size twelve. Seriously, it’s a crucial hair’s-breadth smaller than Times or Times New Roman.
