Is the section that asks what other colleges you are applying to required? I don’t really want to fill it out, but I also wouldn’t want to leave it out if it’s absolutely necessary. Thanks for your help.

I’d answer honestly.

ya, it shouldnt affect you. it wouldne be right for BU to either accept or deny your entrance solely on the other schools youve applied to.

Is it bad that I sent it in and realized that I didn’t put any colleges? I’m applying ED so it’s obviously my first choice but will this hurt me?

it won’t hurt you

I had heard at some other school that actually did discriminate according to the other schools you apply to. I’m not insinuating that BU does. I believe that I included some schools that I applied to which were comparable to BU and left off schools that were significantly different in status.

I think mostly they use this for statistics purposes. But I wouldn’t doubt at all if they considered it as part of your application. When those kind of questions come up I normally just put similar colleges… maybe one that’s way different

I was mostly worried that if I put all my reaches on there, they might think I’m not going to enroll if accepted. So I’ll probably just put 4-5 schools that are somewhat similar to BU.

It’s not starred, so it’s not required. I called the admissions office and they affirmed that.

Adcoms expect you to apply to reaches, matches and sure bets so be honest and ad some of each otherwise it looks like you are only applying to match schools and everyone knows thats unlikely. They are not supposed to consider it in their decision but there is always the possibility it influences them slightly in an indirect way. Still, best to be honest.
