Supplemental essay

If a college (I’m thinking of Pomona specifically) permits supplemental essays, is it preferable to send a less-than-amazing one or none at all?

Especially noting that my personal statement tends on the long side AND that I had to write a supplementary essay for a disciplinary infraction…

I just don’t want to appear as if I don’t care.

Thoughts??

None at all, if it’s not a really great essay. (But then again can you make it into a really great essay?)

I think it depends on every college in particular. Some do consider the ‘optional essay’ being almost compulsory, while others really don’t care and a few even consider it annoying if it doesn’t bring anything new to the application. I don’t know how Pomona considers it. I think if you have something new to say, if this essay reveals a part of you that is not specified anywhere else in the application, send it. If not, it’s up to you.
