i’m doing a recording (trumpet and piano) and if this counts, some home-baked goods…(express mail? haha)

errr…sorry if this is a dumb question, but i’m really paranoid:

for ECs, common app gives waay too little space. it says to use the “additional information” space for activities that don’t fit, but I don’t want my formatting to get all messed up =(.

Who is submitting an activity resume? and if so, did u just copy and paste into the addt’l info box (common app users), or did you send the resume in the mail as a supplement?

I sent the JHU app for ED and like the common app, there were too few spaces. I recreated a similar table in excel and typed everything in there with a short explanation along with positions and things which may help clarify the EC. I put this in with
my app.

I know you asked for Common App users but nobody had replied and i figured my situation was similar.

Actually most of the adcoms recommend submitting a comprehensive activity resume beyond the space provided by the common app. or JHU app. Don’t go to long with this “resume” but a descriptive page or two will be quite helpful.

hooray! thanks for the help, coolguy and laxfan.
btw coolguy- i noticed you live in philly? any chance you’re near USP (university of the sciences in philadelphia?) my friend goes there =)

Well, I’m about 22 miles north of USP in a northwestern suburb of Philadelphia. Horsham actually. but a brother of one of my good friends goes to USP.

wow. i live like 10 minutes away from horsham. haha, its a small world.

wait laxfan, what do u mean by not resume, and decriptive stuff…they dont want another essay sorta thing do they? a list isnot good enough?

not an essay - but a descriptive list of your activities in and out of high school (sports, music, theatre, community service, jobs, enrichment programs, clubs, etc…). Include time commitments, leadership positions, and a bit about how you were involved.

This “resume” is a crucial part of the review as it describes you, your passions, and what you will offer outside of the classroom. Provide the committee with useful details rather than just a list and it can help.

For instance…if you are a member of Student Government for the past three years – don’t just list that. Provide a bit of context of what you have done in Student Government for those years - any leadership roles, etc.

Hope that explains it.
