We purchased a chest freezer in March. After it arrived and was set up, we noticed that the lid did not seal properly; after multiple calls to the retailer over the months, the freezer was finally replaced this week. The reason it took so long was ‘out of stock’. That is one example of supply chain issues we have encountered these past few months.
I just bought five boxes of Rice-A-Roni Herb and Butter for the first time since April. The store had no limits, so I bought every one they had.
Can’t get open sided class crafting ornaments in any craft store. There is a substitute (designed for plants), but they’re larger and twice the cost. I have seen some online, but the sellers are marking them up over 3x the cost the craft stores had sold them for last fall.
Kitchen Bouquet was out of stock everywhere when we looked prior to the Jewish holidays. My family’s recipe for brisket requires it! Turns out, it is made by a sub company of Clorox, so I assume that is the reason. Target had it online for the regular price, so I ordered a bottle for mom, my aunt, kids and myself.
There was another thread mentioning a shortage of canned pumpkin. Just got a grocery pick-up order yesterday. They were out of the Libby’s I ordered but I got 4 cans of One-Pie as a substitute.
Had a really hard time finding large and jumbo size plastic planters at Home Depot, garden centers, etc.; finally found some good ones on Amazon, but now I have a huge amount of cardboard it’s going to take weeks to get rid of in our every-other-week-pickup recycling bin.
I recently made couscous for the first time in a while and thought “why don’t we eat more couscous,” but now I’m having trouble finding plain (non flavored) couscous. Perhaps couscous is the new flour/rice/pasta (plenty of all three of those where I shop).
Had our electrician over for a couple of minor things and he mentioned they are having supply issues (his company mostly does new construction and major renovations). That said, there’s still a ton of home renovation going on in my neighborhood so I think supplies are generally getting through, though perhaps more slowly.
Clorox wipes appeared twice in my neighborhood supermarket in recent weeks. Hadn’t seen those anywhere since March. (That said, it’s not like I’ve been running all over town looking for them, I just see if they are in stock if I’m already at supermarket/hardware store/Target for a different reason.)
The cleaning supply aisle is always empty still. Usually just a few random things on the shelf.
There’s one kind of soup I like and it was out for months. When I saw it, I bought a couple but then it was out again.
Peter pan is gone now, but I’ve heard it was a problem with the peanut supply unrelated to focus.
My boiler part was running a day or two behind. Would not have been bad except they shipped the wrong part and now we are waiting again. Hopefully by Friday they are saying. Argh.
Rubbing alcohol is impossible to get in my local groceries or pharmacies. I was able to find them at Walmart online but could only get 2 at one time, so I had to order a bunch of other stuff to get free shipping.
Here is what I’m finding about construction supplies:
Took 6 weeks to get an order of pressure treated lumber delivered. Usually on the shelf.
Cost of 2x4 up from 3.85 to 5.85!! That’s a whopping increase if you are building an addition or a house.
The electrical shelves for single switches, outlets, plates are absolutely bare at Home Depot. Had to buy a box of 10 to get just 1. No Eaton circuit breakers of any kind available. Other brands are available, but you really cannot mix brands into an electric panel. That will stop any panel installs or upgrades in their tracks.
Large beams and engineered beams now months out for order. This issue is stopping me in my tracks right now.
I went to the dentist last Wednesday. He was telling me that their new office, which was planned for late summer 2020, will hopefully be ready in spring 2021. His dad is one of our area’s premiere commercial builders and is doing the job. I mentioned I had heard lumber prices were up significantly (because everyone reading @coralbrook’s threads knows this;)) and he said it was up so much that they just framed the building in steel.
Interesting thread! I’ll second the Rice-A-Roni and add Mary Kitchen Corned Beef Hash, Kirkland toilet tissue, pulse oximeters, outdoor swings, and used cars.
