My husband (now 9 years out from his diagnosis with stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma) also found hard exercise helped him deal with the treatment. He became a serious cyclist and finished a 108 mile ride 2 weeks after his last chemo. It definitely helps.

As for the steroids, they do mask pain, reduce inflammation, reduce the size of tumors, and reduce your need for sleep. Yep, you get moon face to go with them, but guess what the best treatment is for that? Hard exercise!

A friend of mine has a hereditary cancer–he’s had several surgeries for brain tumors–and takes 10 mg a day, every day, of prednisone (corticosteroid)–he finds he’s fine… as long as he gets his hour/day of cardio.

ADad, no, I cannot sing, lol, and I only typically do so in church where my voice is hidden with everyone else’s. Or perhaps along to something on my iPOD, but only when no one else is around…

dmd, thank you for that, steroids really, really confuse me. The more I try to understand them the worse it gets. For example, I do not understand how they can reduce inflammation yet cause it at the same time. Plus, clearly, it’s easy to get into a false sense of security here. Yesterday, I spent the entire day shopping - I ended up buying a lot of stuff - anyway, ten hours of shopping, then dinner out, I don’t think I sat down for ten minutes all day; this morning I am off to catch a plane and do three days of meetings, and I now wonder, this could actually have nothing to do with performance status at all, it could be that I am simply propelled forward by the 4 mg/day steroids??? Scary…

LTS - Just in case you check this before you fly, I hope you have a wonderful trip. Sorry it didn’t work out to get together in DC; sounds like we picked the one day all year that you just didn’t have it in you. CountingDown was sick, too (hope you feel better CD!) so it was just me and MominVA. We had a nice lunch, great visit, quick tour of the Postal Museum. It is so fun having all these “instant friends” wherever I go. I hope you, LTS, will take advantage of these instant invisible friends wherever your trip might be taking you, if you should need them.

I don’t know when I’ll get back to DC, so am very disappointed to not have gotten the chance to meet up. Sorry to leave so many voice messages, but my signal kept going in and out and I was so afraid of missing your call!

Haha. LTS: I take steroids for my asthma and I could absolutely not do that or a quarter of what you do. Steroids do help, but they can’t create a fit person out of an unfit one or a basically healthy person (yes I say this.) Unfortunately, it’s my disease that keeps me unfit. Obviously, yours doesn’t.

Brava!

LTS, 4 mg of steroids is not a high dose as steroid dosing goes. It’s definately enought for the fluid retention/wt gain, but at this does and length of use, it is NOT likely your “propellant.” It might have been in the first 2-3 days, but not likely at this point. So I think it really is your performance status, and what you find when you dig deep enough, rather than the steroids. And having a Sat with no WBR helps (I am guessing no treatment.) And since steroids themselves can have some anti-tumor activity, just shop again when you need to, and complete the treatment the doctors ordered. While shopping can be a chore, it can be fun! Best wishes for your meetings and presentation.

LTS- you clearly have an unbelievable amount of energy! 4mg will not keep your energy at that level. Your body naturally makes about 7mg (I think) It also really should not give you moon face at that dosage. It will help keep up your appetite, so you may eat more which may put on some weight.

Feel Good!

Just a reminder to visit the [Golf Digest U.S. Open Contest](http://www.gdopencontest.com) before April 30th and consider voting for John Atkinson.
LTS has emailed me that she is traveling with a new laptop and cannot manage to get CC to reset her password, so she can read but not post until she gets back home. She wants to thank everyone for their encouraging posts, especially those of you who have posted info about steroids, which have really provided her tremendous relief over an issue that had her worried out of her mind.

So keep up the posts – and let’s all send positive energy her way so she can wow her business colleagues the same way she wows all of us.
