Well, having learned - just this morning (from Wikipedia and elsewhere) - that for women’s shoe sizing you add 1.5, and that these run small (so you need to order a size up), I guess I’ll take a pair of the Manolo Blahniks in a 13.5 (wide, please).

The Red Heel society!! I love that, and must say I already have the goods to be a member. Current favorite is patent peep toe with high wedge heel. I will try to find picture.

LTS- have a beautiful day, all my thoughts and prayers.

I can join, I can join…I have two pairs of red heels…one is a bit small…perhaps I could help someone else achieve membership??? I am positive that forever, the rest of my life, I will think of LTS and this thread of sharing and how important a strong spirit are whenever I wear red heels…and what better to exemplify this than Red Heels! Someone who is clever could design a T-shirt or a lapel pin we could all order, so that if red heels are not quite appropriate, we could recognize each other, and the proceeds could go to lung cancer research or whatever LTS thinks needs helps. Terrific idea!

Can red Keds count? I could manage that.

Epistrophy, I want to see you in those heels! I found you another pair, if you can’t find the Blahniks wide enough:

Guess I need to go shopping. Mine will be heels in a relative way - since, like Mythmom, I can’t actually wear real heels. But I will forever after also think of LTS whenever I see red heels - or red shoes of any kind!

We need a slogan, too – Heels for hurdles, or something.

The Giorgio Brutini, please!

How about “Heels for Heroes”?

A poem for a long term survivor

When I am sick, I will wear red heels.
In my red heels,
I will jump hurdles with a small running lead.
I will be lifted up on my red heels,
because no inconsiderate disease or circumstance
can bring me down.
My red heels will hold me above the flood
of my room,
of my emotions,
of my life.
My red heels will carry me up and down escalators
in busy places.
And bolster me in quiet ones.
They will transform business suits
into evening gowns.
And business meetings
into personal triumphs.
They will make me late to school
and precisely on time for life.
And will show the world that I am the same person
I always was.
And perhaps not the same.
Taller.
And when I am well,
I will wear red heels
because I will be the same person
but taller.

How perfect, binx. You are the poet laureate of CC!

Binx, love the poem!

Red Heels For Heroes!!!

Binx,

That is the most fitting poem for LTS!

hmmn…there might be a fund raising opportunity here…
“From Head to Toe”
a portion of all sales of Red Heels will go towards small cell brain cancer research and patient needs…
get Manolo Blahnik and the Sex and the City gals to feature the Deep Red Alligator SO EXOTIC pumps in a campaign?? along with adds of all sorts of regular gals wearing red heels, like the Got Milk? ads…

Got Heels? Got Red Heels? LTS’s add could show her dashing up the stairs at the metro…while the folks on the escalators all have on boring black or brown shoes? (Wasn’t there a post by LTS of her jumping over something in the metro station at one point? no time to scroll thru to find it…but I have vague recollections…all recollections are vague these days!!)

and there is always the “No Place Like Home” tap your red heels three times from The Wizard of Oz image that could be employed too??

the people here on CC are the most creative, clever and supportive group anywhere…

maineparent: We were thinking the same thing! Cross-posted!

I deleted my own post.

I actually posted the same thing as maineparent. I think this name should spearhead all our fund-raising efforts, and the Cancer episodes on Sex and the City were profound – they used actual survivors at their “benefit”. I am going to see the movie in about an hour.

Will wear my sandals – two inch heels (actually the heels are brilliant gold cork, but the shoes qualify as red heels).

binx – poem wonderful!! Indeed, our poet laureate.

maineparent: We have one brain.

There was once a fundraiser to which I was invited. They sent a gourmet tea bag, and suggested the recipient skip the babysitter, the dress, the price of admission, and just enjoy a cup of tea at home & send in the saved money to support the cause.

So maybe we could all find our fantasy red shoes, skip buying them, and just send in the money?

I’m with garland - red skechers for me. My fantasy is not fundraising (though all the ideas sound great) but an organization that provides support for people going through cancer treatments, etc and need someone to sit with them. As we all know, not every one has a support systems in place. The uniform? red shoes. Heels if you like them, otherwise red keds or skechers or even flip flops would be fine.

Last week I spent a day with a young woman I just met. She had no one to take her to the ER. She thought she was miscarrying (and she was). She just asked for a ride, but I couldn’t leave her there alone. After spending 8 hours with her in the ER, and then reading some of the posts here. I wondered how many people don’t have a support network available when they’re facing a medical crisis.
I also think I love the idea of red shoes and clicking ones heels together to be home again, to what ever “home” brings comfort to you.

I think any and all ideas could be encompassed under the same umbrella, but the red shoe (include converse of course) society could be dedicated and spearheaded by LTS.

Red shoes optional.

I cannot stop thinking about the people who were fired while in hospital and left with no insurance, and oncologists ready to stop treating them. . .

I’d be glad to join the Red Heels Society but make mine flat. That’s all i can wear nowadays.
LTS, have a good weekend.

LOL, here are my shoes, just not shown in the red patent leather:

[Zappos.com - Vince Camuto Mabel](http://www.zappos.com/n/multi_view.cgi?product_id=7466818&color_id=89&view=multi&ref=multi-link)

I don’t know how to find the color online…anyway, I love the idea of help, support, funding for those with few resources and no safety nets. And while it’s tempting to want to think that people should be better planners, it’s hard to grasp, to understand the concept of what a serious illness can do, how seriously it can decimate one’s resources when one is in the very middle of the battle and it is too late to change course or to try to recruit, earn, or otherwise develop new resources.

I have arrogantly enjoyed extraordinary, excellent health all of my life. Not a broken bone, hospitalization, infection, etc. of any sort anywhere in my history. Not even a menstrual cramp. I have never once used a single sick day or taken a day off of business commitments for illness. I simply assumed I was immortal; at the very least I expected to continue on like this well into my 90’s…(as of today, I get short of breath after climbing stairs, or climbing up a hill).

Never could I have imagined this. I did not plan for this, and am lucky to have the resources to plow through it. But I may be the outlier, at least with regard to lung cancer, so, if there are ways to help others who find themselves in this situation, we cannot get started soon enough. Science can only take us so far; we need the very vital human interaction, spirit and support to make it to the finish line.

Oaklandmom, thank you so much for helping that poor young woman. Regardless of her medical outcome she will remember you for a very long time, I’m sure. When I feel better, I don’t think about the team of very expensive, experienced, highly educated oncologists who are directing my treatment plan; I think about the caregiver who half carried me and tucked me into bed last weekend, or about the time a few days before when she cleaned my vomit up off the floor.

More challenges today; for the first time ever, my chemotherapy has been delayed: low platelets. So I had a platelet transfusion. Hopefully chemotherapy next week. Perhaps in a way the small break is a good thing.

Binx, thank you for the lovely poem. I actually saw it early this morning, just before I left for what was supposed to be chemotherapy. It carried me through having to hear the nurse tell me no chemotherapy today…
