Support from rich alumni?

Hey! I’m Bart from Poland. I’ve been looking for all financial aid sources accessible to me since I can’t actually contribute anything to the costs of studies at colleges I’m gonna apply to. I was pretty surprised when I read somewhere that it’s possible (and reportedly quite common) in the US to get financial support from some rich alumnus/alumna of a university one would like to attend. Is it true?

All the best

Many alumni establish scholarships for undergraduate students. These are awarded by financial aid departments. It would be very unusual for an alumni to offer to pay your expenses in any other way.

Unless he’s your dad, I don’t think it’s something that going to happen on a personal basis. As Thirdelement says, the way alumni scholarships work, they are administered through admissioins/financial aid.

I received a financial aid scholarship (need-based) that was named after an alumni since he funded the scholarship(s); this was given to me by the financial aid department because I met conditions the alumni set forth. If you mean ask the alumni, I think that is very uncommon and I am not even sure how ethical it is.

Alumni scholarships are usually for domestic students, and sometimes are for alumni’s kids.

Maybe if there’s a rich alum that is from your country who has endowed a scholarship for kids from your country???
