Support Gay Marriage?

Well, first of all. I do not see how my taste in music is relevant to this thread or the topic at hand. And I have a wide range of music that I enjoy. I like bands like Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Jimmy Eat World…I like some indie bands like Snow Patrol. At the same time I also like hip hop like Kanye West (GASP!! I know you hate “black music”). Now if you do not have anything productive (or relevant!) to say…please go post somewhere else.

Erm… the music that someone likes doesn’t predict their views on the issue of gay marriage. Back on topic…

Therefore, it could never be a violation or affirmation of any individual’s human rights.

Marriage is a social privilege that confers upon those who are afforded it certain privileges denied to the rest of society (those not engaged in consensual sex as couples).

Beyond question, marriage has been historically granted to protect those who have no individual protections in society themselves and therefore required special protections: children and, for a time, women—neither of whom were autonomous members of society granted such privileges as were granted to men, such as the right to vote, own property, purchase regulated products, sue for redress in court and inherit wealth.

These conditions now only exist for children as a specific sub-group, since women by and large possess such rights legally.

Therefore, we would need to have a social need served by granting this privilege to men marrying men and women marrying women beyond simply recognizing their passions for each other and presenting them with social gifts.

They can live, love and have sex to their hearts content without granting special social privileges to them because of it.

Perhaps there is a social need that must be addressed and corrected as noted above as is currently the case with children and formerly the case with women; though no one in this thread has proposed one.

People say they want separation of church and state, as well as gay marriages being legal. But gay marriage is a religious matter. The most popular religion in America is Christianity, which strongly speaks against gay marriage. Gay marriage is a sin, as is homosexuality. You say not to force my religion on you, but if you tell me to respect homosexuals, are you not forcing your religion on me? Now don’t get me wrong, they’re still people who deserve respect, but my religion says to convert all people to Christ. So its all good when a homosexual can marry, but not when I try to tell them that what they’re doing is a sin? I’m trying to save them from an eternal hell, and all of a sudden I’m doing something so terrible.

(that last sentance here shows you why I feel it is so important to me to try to get homosexuals to change their sinful ways. and yes, homosexuality is a sin.)

elitism,

i concur with you. Amen! They talk about religious tolerance, but cant tolerate our religion and its beliefs…

But gay marriage is a religious matter.

No it isn’t. Marriage is a civil institution, and so this is a civil matter.

You say not to force my religion on you, but if you tell me to respect homosexuals, are you not forcing your religion on me?

No. lol, thats about the easiest way to put it. “We” are not telling you to respect homosexuals (whether you respect them or not is your own personal business), but we are saying that you cannot advocate denying someone entering into a social institution like marriage based on their sexual preferences. That would be like saying that homosexuals cannot get social security because they’re gay.

Seriously, I could care less that you think its a sin. Thats great - but society is not built around a religion (ANY religion - I dont’ care if its the biggest religion in the country), because religion discriminates, and that’s fine because it is religion. But society cannot in good conscience discriminate against anyone who is not harming anyone else. And allowing gay people to be legally married doesn’t hurt anyone.

I could not have put it any better!

Elitism is ■■■■■■■■…

This arguement was from August, and he randomly brought out the topic.

heh - interesting, i hadn’t noticed - too long of a thread, so I never really looked at the dates. Oh well, still got my $.02 in, I suppose.

I realized since this was one of the heated topics back in summer of CC. Some might recall, a few of the members took a hard beating and then abruptly left the topic.

Which members? Haha this was my thread and i dont remember.

Flipchick got it hit pretty hard. I didn’t even remember her whole sn, but I remembered it immediately once I saw her SN on pages 3-4.

I think I may have been involved in the discussion ;)

Yup you were.

Damn straight I said that. Some of that isn’t in context though, but I still think all of that. My beliefs are very diverse though. I distrust Republicans and Democrats and wish their was a party that suited me. In some of my classes everyone thinks I’m such a liberal because we have debates about Iraq :P. And I also think abortion should be choice, because it is a fact of life, like drug abuse. So there you go :P

I was just posting that to display that you were involved with this thread  Chill.

Lol, I wasn’t offended :), but I REALLY don’t want to continue where we left off :P

Yea me neither. Although I just wanted to mention one thing. You are okay with gays marrying as long as it is not in a Catholic church? Because acting on homosexuality is a sin, in according with Catholicism, right? (homosexuality in itself is not a sin, a common misconception) Well, premarital sex is also a sin. They, however ARE allowed to marry in a church. It says nowhere that being gay is more “bad” than having sex before you’re married. You cant pick and choose when you’re going to abide by the Bible. Im just following your line of reasoning. Correct me if any of this is wrong.

So is telling a lie.

Huh? Can you explain this?
