“Except that isn’t how the world or humans were created”

Hmm…

It seems to me that if adoption isn’t the way humans are created then why make a distinction when it comes to the legal aspect.

“back then…no one ever wanted uniquness.”

No, we are far more diverse today in our Abercrombie and Fitch clone suits; and our new dominant languages (English, Chinese and Spanish); and the fact that on any given night millions of people are listening to the same dogmatic, PC news broadcast covering the same news from more or less the same milquetoast perspective night after night; when one such talking-head’s death merits numerous laments on this message board as if he were family (though he was in millions of people’s homes at dinner time for about 20 odd years); when common phrases and idioms enter the language from coast to coast because of a single ‘artiste’; when it is consider unique to speak the same phrases and wear the same clothes and share the same cultural views—Really, Socrates, Shakespeare, Jesus, Muhammad, Siddhartha, Lao Tzu, Newton, Dante and Plotinus should all be ashamed when seen in the light of our brave new uniqueness!

“They should embrace who they are.”
(See above)

Bill Cosby once succinctly said, “what if you’re an a s s hole?

Pucker up!

What does Jesus have to do with Abercrombie and Fitch? You lost me there…

I just wanted to say, there are few people that can turn straight from being gay, but that’s only a very small percentage of gays.

FoutainSiren, imagine back then. Everyone worked in the same class, did the same things. That’s the concept of uniqueness. They all did chores, farm, etc. etc.

As of today, sure you can point out similartities in many modern man’s life, but the differences that the common man does today is a lot more vast than back then.

Sorry,

I was not clear on the point you were trying to make.

If you mean that the manner in which people make money, through more career paths, makes them more unique, that may be true; and if uniqueness is defined by the manner in which you make cash, I might even agree with you (not sure though—there is an argument to be made that the majority of people in N. America work in the service industry doing things unrelated to their life in any way other than life defined as artifice: taking a lunch order, or getting something ‘from isle three’,for example.).

I mistakenly thought that you were saying that people—per people—are more unique now, which would of course be a ludicrous and laughable statement and I should have known better.

If you mean (per this thread) that society is more unique because there are more gay people, that would seem to contradict previous posts that insist that homosexuality has a genetic cause and that homosexuals must exist in roughly the same numbers they have throughout history due to their DNA.

If you mean that within society homosexuals are more unique than conservative ole’ heterosexuals, I would have to agree; having attended the NYC gay pride parade a few weeks ago I can assure you that, based on those I saw that day, homosexuals are far more unique and interesting than society at large…though, for the purposes of this thread, the majority did not strike me as the marrying type, if you know what I mean.

It seems to me that the pure biology of a man’s body and woman’s body testifies to what is natural and what is not.

“It seems to me that the pure biology of a man’s body and woman’s body testifies to what is natural and what is not.”

Yes, that shows that it is natural for a male and female to REPRODUCE, not MARRY. So if a male/female is sterile then they shouldn’t be aloud to marry, since they wouldn’t be able to procreate(that’s what sex is naturally for)?

No, that is not what I am suggesting at all. I am suggesting that man and woman’s bodies were made to fit one another, and that’s it. And yes, they are made that way for reproduction. I realize this. However, whether a couple chooses to reproduce or not is irrelevant. They still have sex the way sex was made to be had. Suggesting that it is normal for a man to have sex with a man or a woman having sex with a woman is entirely false, and I can’t support the normalization of a such an unnatural act.

me neither…

bumpity bump…

Well if you want to talk biology, let’s move from the reproductive system to the immune system —> the human body was meant to be able to fight off germs and infections on its own, without the help of pharmeceuticals, vaccines, antibiotics, etc. So therefore, any sort of drugs or injections are quite unnatural.

Secondly, on the issue of whether being gay is a choice or not, compare it to other altered states of the body/mind. People don’t choose to exhibit manic depression or obsessive compulsive disorder, and it logically follows that such people can’t just rationally and consciouslly choose to not have those conditions. They arrise due to genetic predisposition coupled with environmental/circumstantial factors.

Granted, this isn’t a completely parallel comparison because homosexuality isn’t self-destructive. But it then follows that because it isn’t, it should be tolerated and accepted, while the aforementioned conditions are typically treated.

in my opinion, you’re comparing apples and oranges… but anyway, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, antibiotics, etc. only help along the body’s natural process. I really don’t see how you can compare the 2 though.

This is still a matter of opinion. I mean, I don’t consider depression a disease, and I believe that it IS a choice.

“in my opinion”, “matter of opinion”, “I don’t consider”, “I believe”…no my friend, if you want to have a serious discussion, use more facts and less opinions.

Depression is a disorder caused by a chemical imbalance, it is NOT a choice. And homosexuality isn;t a choice either, you cannot choose what who you are sexually attracted to. Bottomline, I feel that if two consenting, monogomous adults wanto to wed, they should be able to, regardless of sexual orientation.

Heterosexuality disgusts me. The thought of a man and a woman together disgusts me. But do I care if it happens? No. Leave people alone.

In case this thread is one of the rare few that are still on topic, I support gay marriage.

Bump Bump Bump

I don’t see how homosexuality can be a choice… Even if I forced myself to date other guys, I would still not like it.

Also, my attraction to girls is not a choice. I can’t help it if I get aroused from seeing attractive and scantily clad ladies… it’s just in my nature to be attracted to women, and I can’t help it!

I LOVE HOT GIRLS!!! They have to be smart too btw =)
