I totally support gay marriage! I think that homosexuals should have the same rights as anyone else. It’s not like I can help it that I like guys (I am a girl btw), how can another girl help it if she likes other girls? I know a gay guy and he’s the sweetest person that you could ever meet. It’s not like they are hurting anybody by being attracted to people of their own sex, so just let them be who they are and not judge them.

I cannot understand how anyone can say that homosexuality is detrimental to society. Conservatives, by definition, are opposed to change. However, we will never grow as a nation if we do not progress forward and embrace people of different ethnicities, creeds, AND sexual orientation. This prejudiced against gays is far too similar to the racism against african americans decades ago, and it is unjust and closeminded to deny homosexuals the rights of marriage.

gays shouldent get married.

The legal union of a man and woman as husband and wife.

Shouldt have sex either. Its wrong and disgusting.

Being gay only hurts society, because you cant re-produce.

I think it is appropriate that this society debate whether the word “marriage” was ever intended to encompass persons of the same gender. And if we decide as a nation to overturn 5,000 years of human history and tradition, hopefully it will be anchored in more than the opinion of five state judges in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

^ actually, heterosexual sex is disgusting. just because you believe one thing dosent mean you should force it down someones throat.

it’s okay not to have reproduction, the world is overpopulated.

“I think it is appropriate that this society debate whether the word “marriage” was ever intended to encompass persons of the same gender. And if we decide as a nation to overturn 5,000 years of human history and tradition”

You must have problems with democracy also because they was formed from overturning thousands of years of human history…blah

Well, first of all, you’re only giving your opinions, but you’re not backing them up.

You also say that gay sex is disgusting and wrong. Well, again, that is your opinion. I am straight and I think gay sex is also disgusting and wrong, but you have to think in terms of perspective. For gay people, straight sex is wrong.

I think eating fried cow brains is disgusting and wrong, but people in America do that, and they think it’s fine. I also think eating insects is disgusting and wrong, but there are different cultures who feel that it’s right.

I think porn is disgusting and wrong, but others like to wank off to it.

I think stilletos, and miniskirts are slutty, others think it’s sexy.

It’s all perspective

you are very right College, everyone’s perspective varies. I do not try to impose my views on others…i just disagree with them and try to give them solid reasons why they might reconsider their stance on an issue…I see nothing wrong homosexuals getting married, others feel differently…and at the end of the day, I may not change their mind, but at the very least I made them think. Unearth, back up your opinions and i will take you seriously, but i have seen your posts in others forums…and they are offensive and crude…

How about this: Marriage is no longer performed by the state. If couples want to benefit from the legal advantages of “marriage” they enter a legal contract performed by the state, which is available to mixed sex or same sex couples. No more civil marriages…

“Marriage” then becomes the pervue religous organizations, honoring the “sanctity” of marriage. Take the concept of “sanctity” completely out of the governmental realm. So effectively, you can have a “couple contract” or “persons in common contract” with or without a secular ceremony (like a citizenship swearing in) , AND an additional religous “marriage” if desired. But the performing, registering, and licensing of marriage is no longer a state function… i just dont see how supporting the “sanctity” of anything is the responsibility of the government. supporting the “ethics” of behavior and institutions is reasonably a governmental responsibility.

Uvajoe, your post makes no sense. In fact, the roots of Western democracy can be traced to Ancient Greece (which, incidentally, had lots of homosexuality but no gay marriage).

I’m gay, so obviously I would support gay marriage.

It seems like most intellectual people would agree with me.

Unearth -

not a single point you’ve made makes sense.

First of all, gays SUPPORT society by not reproducing. The world is growing at a fairly rapid rate. Perhaps it’s best that not everybody reproduces…is it wrong for a straight couple to choose not to have children? And furthermore, gay couples can adopt and raise children.

And regarding not having gay sex, it’s really none of your business, and I don’t know where you’re getting the ideology that it’s “wrong”.

I agree, I have noticed that intellectuals tend to support gay marriage. While the opposed are those individuals who tend to blindly follow their religion and what their parents have told them. I form my own beliefs based on my own morals and ethics and if two consenting adults wanna wed, let them get married, regardless of sexual orientation. Who are you to deem it wrong, Unearth, that;s your opinion, and I doubt that you have high moral standards if you use words like “■■■” that are offensive to homosexuals and many straight people (like me). If you want to disagree, you do not have to be crude in the process

I think I said this, but it feels like SPiker’s solution would be the best solution.

swbutterfly, oh so ancient greece marks the beginning of time??

And also they were considered radical at the time, and did not last thanks to their contemporary forms of closed thinking individuals as you sound to be.

One more thing, so what you are saying is that the certain parts of greece that did explore democracy represented the majority of the world!??? NO, of course not. Just as Canada does not represent the majority of the world with their embracement of homosexual rights

Support Gay Marriage?

Sure.
Many people have said that marriage is the legal union between a man and woman for they are bonded as husband and wife. Yet I question what is the point of getting married anyways? Surely one being a man and another being a women isn’t the entire point of marriage yes? Why bonding a man and woman in such union is obvious-reproduction. And yet, I think many are neglecting how the idea of marriage comes from…

Although i’m generally not against gay marriage (not for it, so I’m kind of a fence sitter), I do have to ask one question:

What about kids who grow up with gay parents? If they have two dads or two moms instead of a mom and a dad, how will this affect them, especially when the children whom they will socialize with will generally have heterosexual parents? How will other kids think of them?

Although I may have come across as anti-gay marriage, I just want to clarify again that I am a fence sitter on this issue

LOL! That actually turned into a series of questions… sorry!
