Supporting gruoup for Asian divorced women in NJ?

As title, my friend needs more than just me, I think she needs a supporting group especially for Asian women. She needs advise from people who gone thru the situation.

She got divorced almost half year ago, but she still hide in the house, don’t know what to do. Kids are far away, she’s alone. Sometimes I asked her to go out for shopping or walk around the community, she always has excuses. I really don’t know how to help her.

I tried to google, but can’t find anything for Asian women (she speaks a little English).

Are there any asian community groups at all nearby? They might have something, or have the resources to start something. We have a few polish community centers nearby, I would imagine other cultures must have something at least in some places.

You may also be able to find her some sort of an online support group, often they take a message board format similar to this one-- an in-person one would be better, but it could be a start-- especially if she won’t leave the house.

It sounds like she could use some professional help, maybe she could start by seeing a therapist and then perhaps the therapist would have suggestions. There are websites, I can’t think of what the one I’ve used is off the top of my head, with databases for mental health professionals and it will say whether they’re multilingual.

I’m sure there’s something out there.

This is a link to listing for agencies that provide mental health services for the South Asian community.
Also found a New Jersey Chinese mental health outreach. It’s not clear to me if this is just for Monmouth country, but you could call and find out what’s available in your friend’s area. Google this to find more info: CAMHOP NJ Chinese American Mental Health Outreach Program in New Jersey
