Supports at CU Boulder

Does anyone have any experience with this school for a kid with mild ADHD, which creates a fair amount of social anxiety?

My niece had no problems working with the disability center (dyslexia) and only had to deal with one professor about not honoring her accommodations (but it was quickly rectified). DS attended a school for kids with ADHD/Dyslexia and a lot of kids apply to or attend Boulder. They steer kids towards schools where they will be successful, so I would think that other people have had good experiences as well.

When we toured last year, they said that one of the things the RAs specifically do is keep an eye on students who may seem socially withdrawn to try get them more involved. I don’t know how well that happens in practice, but it does seem to indicate that they look out for students like this.

The CU disability office is helpful and offers some free academic support for students (EF coaching by PhD students). They also have counseling services/programs to help kids with anxiety and other mental health issues. I think CU is similar to a lot of other large schools – if you take advantage of the resources, they’ll be useful, but if a student needs significant support, you will probably want to engage outside services/providers. If you want to message me I’d be happy to share our experience.
