This reminds me of a story from USC (Southern Cal) from years ago. They got a popular talk show to bring a student on the show under the guise of talking about college admission. When the segment started, out came the USC band and the Dean of Admission, who presented the student’s full scholarship.

It makes me giddy thinking about doing something like this. We all fantasize about being there for the moment a student opens their offer letter, but to be there when a student finds out they’re going to school for free…it would be awesome.

The few times college bound students on that home improvement show with the guy from Trading Spaces were given the full scholarships, I cried. :)

What an honor! And well deserved—unless this Stephens kid is an URM, in which case, it’s obviously not fair. If he’s white or Asian, however, he MUST have earned the honor.

Less than one month remaining before April 15th, when, CC Forums’ annual wailing/gnashing of teeth commences, that event marked by loud and bitter condemnation of that most egregious social injustice, AA (and all it’s perceived beneficiaries).

Wow I wish more kids that this would get such generous things handed to them especially foster childern, I have a special place in my heart from them.

Aspires to be a pediatric neurosurgeon and spends his afternoons assisting with research at VCU Medical Center, obviously a top candidate, but it’s only fair if he’s white or Asisan? Yikes, why would you even say such a thing?

When I read, “…dream come true,” I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes too. I can only imagine the lost dreams this young man has faced.

Sorry to Poetshart, and thanks MoT for setting me straight. I read this after only two sips of coffee. It usually takes me two full cups to think straight!

This is one of those two hankie stories, I agree. Then again, I cry like a baby at that aforementioned Extreme Home Makeover show. So does my husband. My kids take bets as to who will cry first, lol.

p.s. I just read the whole story and am now weeping into my 2nd cup of coffee!
