Introduction

This is a survey of the CC community’s performance on the June 2010 administration of the SAT Subject Tests. “The CC community”, here, does not include those students whose parents or friends posted their scores, as those students are not themselves participants in the community.

These scores were obtained from [this thread](Official June 2010 SAT Subject Test Results Thread - SAT Subject Test Preparation - College Confidential Forums) and [this thread](June 2010 SAT II Results Thread - SAT Subject Test Preparation - College Confidential Forums). contained in these two threads are the scores of 228 members of the CC community. I believe that this is a reasonable sample to represent the general ability of the CC community, since most subject tests are taken in May or June. Language exams that include listening, however, are only administered in November, so I may analyze a November administration in the future.

I put all of these scores into a spreadsheet in order to easily organize the results. In this spreadsheet, none of the scores are connected with any names, nor with any other scores. Only scores from the June 2010 administration are considered, not past scores. I entered the name of each participant in order to make sure that there were no duplicates between the two threads. url=http://sharebee.com/e0e8891d

I also have included statistics for a general “Science” SAT Subject Test, consisting of the results from the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics SAT Subject Tests. This was inspired by the number of schools that require the Math 2 subject test and a science subject test. Items 2-6 only cover those with more than 25 tests taken. (These also happen to be the “core” subject tests, excluding Math 1.)

I have included comparisons with CollegeBoard’s data for a representative sample of the entire SAT Subject Test-taking population in order to show how much CCers deviate from most of the people who take these standardized tests. These numbers show that CCers generally perform extremely well compared to the general college-bound population. This is expected, and even obvious to many, seeing as the forum itself is focused on college admissions and therefore tends to host a higher proportion of people that are concerned about college admissions (and thus are more inclined to prepare and do well on standardized testing). The statistics presented here are valuable evidence supporting this conclusion.

Let me make it clear that the purpose of this survey is NOT to demean any person because of their score(s) on the SAT Subject Tests. The purpose is also NOT to scare people into thinking that perfect scores are necessary in order to be competitive in the college admissions process. That is not true. (See [silverturtle’s Guide to SAT and Admissions Success](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/955109-silverturtles-guide-sat-admissions-success.html) for more details and debunkings.)

With that being said, I present the statistics.
