Susan Boyle Britian's Got Talent! Unemployed, 47, with an angel's voice

I love that Elaine Paige has spoken of what this should mean for everyone with a dream. I will also be very interested to see just how this changes Susan’s life. When I read that her mother died two months ago and her long job of caring for her ended, my faith in the hand of fate was renewed.

I read elsewhere that they are told to come with two songs prepared.

I don’t know if it was a set-up, but it certainly made Simon look good. The kid’s first song wasn’t a good choice, the second was great.

I still prefer Susan. (And I hope she doesn’t do My Heart Will Go On, although it could be meaningful to her in reference to her mother.) The kid’s a great Michael Jackson clone. MJ himself didn’t get interesting until he grew up.

I would love to hear her sing Send in the Clowns, one of my favorite songs. Although, with her it would have an ironic subtext (“losing my timing this late, in my career”)

When does she compete again?

I heard on a news show last night that she is on again in May. I have no doubt it will be plugged by all the entertainment news sights, and will be on Youtube almost immediately after the airing.

I want her to sing, “Maybe this time,” from Cabaret. There is a wonderful version on youtube by Ruthie Henshall.

She returned to, “I dream a dream,” for the finals, and was named runner-up.
She’ll always be a winner and inspiration to me.

Her life and the contest could be a great movie or musical.

"LONDON - She dreamed a dream — and it almost came true.

Susan Boyle’s reality show journey ended Saturday with a second-place finish to a dance troupe called “Diversity” on the final of the television show “Britain’s Got Talent.”

After the announcement, Boyle curtsied to the audience and gave them her signature hip shake…"

The pressure must have been awful.

I wish people would give Diversity more credit, though. Almost every headline I’ve seen reads “Susan Boyle in shock defeat on BGT” or something to that effect, when in reality anyone who followed BGT throughout would have known that Diversity (who came on in the second episode) and Flawless (who came on in the first) were right up there from the beginning. Twitter sentiment on the night of the final made it clear Diversity were actually very popular winners. Susan Boyle’s story is great, but it always seemed grossly unrealistic to assume she would win. Hopefully she’ll be given some room to breathe and some time to herself for a bit now.

How many songs did Susan Boyle sing in the competition? I searched YouTube briefly and could only find about two songs. Adam Lambert of American Idol has maybe ten songs or more on YouTube. Why doesn’t Susan Boyle have more? Anyone know?

It is a different kind of competition from American Idol. They do one performance to get in the semi finals, do one for the semi-finals and then one for the finals. That makes the most they perform as 3x’s. It is not uncommon to perform one of the first 2 over again in the finals particularly if popular, so that makes only 2 different pieces.

It’s unfortunate for Diversity that they are going to play second fiddle to Susan Boyle, just like the winner of Miss USA, Miss South Carolina (I think) has been overshadowed by Miss Opposite Marriage.

I was totally unimpressed by Diversity. Any high school or college acrobatic cheerleading squad could easily have done their routine.

Susan Boyle will no doubt go on to have a successful recording career. If live performances are too stressful for her, that’s okay. Hopefully she will earn enough money to hire a good personal assistant who can help her cope with her new found fame.

Of course you have to remember the audience - in the UK we do not have cheerleading and cheerleading squads so their performance was probably more unique and impressive to a Brit audience than it would be to a US one.

There are many many people who sing as well or better than Ms Boyle too. She was there because of her looks and back story - she had a “hook”.

Oh please, there is no way you can tell me that “any” high school or college cheerleading squad could come up with such creative, witty choreography.

I thought Diversity rocked (as does Susan Boyle) and the sight of all those boys’ shock and tears when their win was announced had me grinning from ear to ear.

Like I posted on another forum, Susan Boyle was only standing where she was because of her surprise factor (looks + background).

I mean, with all honesty, she was a good singer. But, there were a lot of good singers in that competition. The 12 year old that sang Michael Jackson sang much better than her imo, and he got voted out before the semifinals. i think if she just looked like a regular person, she might have gotten through the first round, but she would not be unique enough to win.

I don’t really think Diversity was all that special, coming from an avid watcher of America’s Next Best Dance Crew (a show on MTV with many groups that were even better than Diversity).

IMO BGT played the Susan Boyle card until people were sick of hearing about her. When everyone tuned in to see a underwhelming performance of her Cats rendition, I think people were puzzled as to how she was one of the final 2. Was that a million dollar performance? Surely people make mistakes, but Diversity danced flawlessly, and ultimately I think they deserved the win more.
