Suspension Appeal Letter Review

If someone could review this and let me know if it sounds like an appeal that could get approved please please let me know. Also open to any critiques.

Dear Members of the Academic Appeals Committee,

I am writing to formally appeal my academic suspension. I understand that my performance during the past semester did not meet the university’s standards, and I take full responsibility for my actions.

During this time, I faced significant challenges, including symptoms of anxiety and undiagnosed ADHD, which greatly impacted my ability to focus and succeed academically. I have since recognized these issues and am actively working on managing them. I have reached out to the care center to discuss strategies for managing my missed work and ensuring I have the necessary support for my academic journey.

I have been meeting regularly with my academic advisor, [Advisor’s Name], who has provided invaluable guidance. Additionally, I have begun attending counseling sessions to address my anxiety this semester and am learning effective strategies to cope with my symptoms. I will continue my weekly meetings with my advisor to ensure I stay on track and receive ongoing support, as well as my appointments with my guidance counselor.

To ensure my academic success, I plan to enroll in summer classes to recover lost credits. I will also take advantage of the writing center to enhance my writing skills and ensure my assignments meet academic expectations. I believe this will be crucial in helping me succeed in my courses. I also plan to reach out to Student Accessibility Services to possibly receive accommodations for testing this coming semester. I have outlined a study plan that includes utilizing campus tutoring services and setting regular meetings with my advisor to track my progress.

Although I should have reached out for help sooner (which is another thing I’ve struggled with) after finally getting the courage from my advisor and counselor to share my struggles with those that can help me, I feel I am more than ready to get back on track next semester if I’m approved, due to the support system I’ve managed to build, and I’ve learned to reach out as early as possible.

I am committed to my education and sincerely wish to demonstrate my ability to succeed at xxx University. Thank you for considering my appeal.

Sincerely,

This is very well-written and is probably the best job anyone could do. You articulate a pretty detailed plan. Do you want to mention working with a doctor on medications?

Question for you, separately: anxiety can mimic ADHD. Do you think you have both? I guess the main relevant question in determining that is what medications actually help. Are you feeling sure that you are ready to return? A semester off is not the disaster it may feel like. If you are sure, this letter is a very good one! Good luck!

taking breaks has only ever made things worse for me --long breaks that is. So a semester off really would not be helpful to me. I’ve already managed to build a support system as my semester is coming to a close, that I feel will help me through my classes next semester if it is approved.
