I just got the news that I’ve been given a ‘24-hour fixed period exclusion’ for making a racist comment, and lying about it. This is completely out of character for me and I regret it immensely. It was just to get a stupid laugh and I would never do it again.
The question I had was, how badly would this affect my application to college? I am an international student, planning on making a very competitive application to top US universities.
You are right, it is a very competitive process. You have to be the best student in your country to even begin to be competitive at some of these elite schools.
I wont address the “stupid laugh” comment.
So here is my take, your school administrators will be making that call. They are the one’s who have to put your best foot forward. They are the one’s who need to provide your school information/transcripts.
Edited to Add: Remember, to put it in perspective, the top schools in the US, get hundreds of thousands of applications from around the world. There are only so many seats available at these schools. You have to be the best and even then, with a perfect record, there are no guarantees that you will be admitted to any of them.
