Suspicious Deferrals

my school had like 25-30 people apply to brown and as far as i know, a couple got rejected and a couple got in. the mass deferrals were really surprising though because we normally have around 10 people go to brown per year, 3ish of those early

well i’m glad to see some people have eliminated the ridiculous possibility that people who get deferred may not be obviously the best candidates for Brown University, and so the school defers them so that they can be compared to the larger regular decision applicant pool. Another great conclusion that I’m glad was reached is that students are exactly the same from year to year and so past results should always be replicated.

Finally, some sense ^^^^^^

7 got in at my school ED

Hey Im just curious what other people thought… no need to mock me like Im some sort of idiot.

No, no need to mock. The truth is that ED only provides a response to those who get in as rejections are as rare if not more rare (I lean towards far more rare) than acceptance. Anyone who’s stats are even in range of Brown’s normal that does not get in typically gets deferred so they get looked at twice. That’s part of the ED advantage, some people get a second look whereas the rest (RD) are stuck with first impressions, so to speak.

FWIW, I applied RD and got in. District wide it had been years since we got past hte waitlist at Brown, but my year 4 got in, 3 attended. The next year only one got in and he attended. School wise we typically have 2-3, district wide probably 10 that apply each year.

I have just confirmed that all students from the whole state of California that applied to Brown EA got accepted…Must be some West Coast East Coast thing

Somehow, I highly doubt your source.

In fact, unless less then 10 people from the state of California applied, and I find that quite doubtful, I’d say it’s nearly impossible for that to be the case.

Source?

^^^ I was kidding!!

my school (near boston) had 2 applicants (myself included) and both were rejected with 4 kids getting accepted last year through regular admissions but I don’t think its a conspiracy. Brown didn’t evaluate our district cause from Boston to where I live included Phillips, Middlesex, Concord Academy, Groton, and some others and I highly doubt they overlooked that area.
