Suspicious Deferrals

So I found out on Dec. 14 that I was deferred ED, only to find out that of nine kids that applied ED in my school, NINE were deferred. Recently, I also heard that almost a dozen other schools in our district had zero acceptances and all deferrals (I live in the greater Boston area). Is this more than bad luck? Was Brown so overloaded with EDs this year that they didnt get to evaluate our district?

That is possibly the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

No, that is not possible.

I’d say bad luck, well not necessarily bad luck because you still have a chance to get in.

Bad luck would be Brown U. sending back your applications as ashes.

from what I’ve heard, 65% of ED applicants were deferred and put into the regular decision pool. IMO, that is really lame of Brown to defer so many people. I mean, I applied ED to get an actual decision.

at my school about 15 kids applied ed and all but 3 got deferred (the other three got accepted). it was pretty insane. i felt bad for all of my friends who applied ed who blatantly didn’t deserve the same decisions as some of the other kids…but oh well.

one deferral ( me) and two rejections, at my school.

At our school, 3 people applied ED to Brown and 3 were deferred. All had great SATs, grades, ECs. Usually, at least 2 get in ED. It’s a California public school with a great reputation.

Most of Delaware (as far as I have heard) has been deferred, 11/14 Applicants (I know the 3 from my school, and about 8 from another school have been deferred; I’m not sure where the other 3 are from, but I know there are 14 total because my Interviewer told me)

I’m not sure why you expected Brown to give you a firm decision, or why you seem to think that they do this any differently from other schools…

At my school, there were two acceptances and one rejection. No deferment.

everyone at my school = rejected.

Would you rather be rejected?

rumor always has it at my school that because so many qualified kids apply regular, as well as early, they like to wait and see everyone who applies before making a decision. for example, last year we had something like 7 kids apply early, and only one got in (who had several hooks). Regular, 8 got in, and six are attending. I dont know if that’s actually what’s happening, but i guess its possible.

See, thequakers statement makes sense at least.

Otherwise, the rest of you posters are crazy!

My school is in Rhode Island, We normally get 15-20 kids into Brown
But…everyone who applied this year got deferred…

Must be a conspiracy…

Going into random Monty Python mode…

“Nobody suspects the inquisition!”

Eh…who knows. I wouldn’t call it suspicous necessarily, each year is different, and I’m a firm believer in every decision is for a reason.

Our school in New York has I believe…4 people applying to Brown, all RD. Although last year, nobody who applied to Brown got in, so who knows.

Yep, it’s all a conspiracy. The Brown adcom totally did not have time to evaluate the Greater Boston Area, so they just slapped down a deferral and called it a day.

Thank you to the great detective work on the part of “student-man”

ruchir12, my friend from Rhode Island got deferred and so did the 5 out of 5 kids from his school. He goes to a private school in Providence that’s usually a feeder to Brown. Weird.

our school had 2 acceptances (one with PLME) and one rejection. No deferrals…odd.

i was the only one from my school who applied ED and was accepted; its odd. brown takes either URMS or extremely qualified applicants from our school. all three kids who applied RD last year were denied.
