SW Florida Eaglets

I know there has been threads about bird hatchings before. If you Google SW Florida eagle cam, the two bald eagle eaglets are about to hatch any time now. One started pecking through yesterday, but no progress since then. I can’t stop watching, don’t want to miss the birth.

The first one hatched early this morning. This is a video from the live cam website.

The site is addictive. It was the first thing I checked when I woke up this morning. Yay for E9! Something good in 2016, finally.

I misunderstood the thread title and thought it was referring to a college team, as in Princeton Tigers, Penn State Nittany Lions, or Norte Dame Fighting Irish.

Not all college teams need to be macho sounding. There are the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, so the SW Florida Eaglets sounds good to me!

^ ^ I used to think the Banana Slugs was the worst team name but Jacksonville, FL just renamed their minor league baseball team from the Jacksonville Suns to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. @-) . WTF were they thinking?

Maybe “eaglets” is what you call a baby born to alumni from Boston College or Auburn.

We have an eagle cam in Pennsylvania. Last spring the mom brought a cat home for dinner…

It’s looking like the 2nd egg isn’t viable.

Just checked in and eaglet #1 is adorable and growing!

Sorry for off topic on team names, but have to say, our New Orleans Zephyrs just changed their name to Baby Cakes. Everyone hates it!

As for the eagles, I am so thrilled that Harriet and her new mate are getting along and reproducing. Harriet and Ozzie were a long time couple, and sadly, Ozzie passed away a year or two ago. I’m a birder, and a wonderful photographer in their area has chronicled the new mate’s courtship and eventual success in winning Harriet over.

We have a few nests nearby, and we are all so excited to watch the youngsters. The juvenile bald eagles don’t get their white heads for a couple of years, so it is pretty awesome to watch the adults and the juveniles, who are as big as they are, every winter.

The American Eagle foundation has a webcam for a nest in NE florida, where they have two chicks (I think the eagles are Romeo and Juliet), they hatched about a week and a half ago. The Washington DC webcam has been on, the papa Eagle (Mr President) is back at the nest working on it, I was laughing the other day, he was working on the nest and had brought 7 fish with him, kind of reminded me of the iconic picture of workers eating lunch high up while constructing Rockefeller Center.
