Swedish/French Student

First of all: I just started the whole “getting into college thing” and I don’t really know where I would like to go and I have no idea where I have a decent chance to get in.

Anyways, this is me:
I finished high school with a 18.1 (out of 20) GPA, which more or less translates to 3,6 American GPA. I attended the top ranked school in Sweden, for whatever that’s worth.

I founded my first company when I was 14, which has been very successful since, we recently acquired a larger company to increase business. I started my second company just a few months ago, got funding (around $45.000) but turned it down due to other circumstances.

I guess I would be described as an entrepreneur, I’m very driven and have tons of ideas

I was born by Swedish/French parents I speak fluent French, Swedish and English.

I have lived in Algeria, Portugal, France and Sweden. Does that have any edge to it?

I’m taking the SAT and the TOEFL in October.

I have a few great recommendation letters from teachers and people I have met in business.

Let’s say I get a decent SAT score, say 1800, what are my chances at the Ivies, Berkely, NYU, Chicago? Or at less prestigious schools like Babson, Bentley, Fordham, etc?

No takers?

I think that for ivies that gpa and predicted SAT score are a little low. I think your foreign and business experience will give you an edge, but not enough to compensate for your gpa and SAT. I would try to get a better score and maybe take the ACT in addition to the SAT. Try to enroll in some SAT prep classes or buy the princeton review book for additional help. The book will tell you everything you need to know about the SAT, and provides you with a few practice tests and answer keys to determine where you stand and what you need to improve on. Good luck:)

to be honest 1800 is not decent for ivies. aim for at least 2000 (just buy a practice book and take a million practice tests that’s what I do). Its difficult to get in to Berkeley in the first place and if you aren’t a California resident (its public) its unlikely you’ll get in. Try and buff up your entrepreneur and language qualities (very impressive by the way!) and you’ll need to also take 2 SAT subject tests.
just go to collegeboard.com and really look at what your college is looking for.

Even though you have the 18.1 out of 20, this is INCREDIBLY high. The French and Swedish schooling systems are very, very challenging. Nobody gets a 20. I find the 18/20 to be more commendable than a 3.9 GPA in the states.

With that being said, you need to bump up your SAT scores.

I honestly think you have a chance at all of them. You’re a foreign student + you’ve started a successful business. You might not have the best SAT scores, but when it comes to being “outstanding”, you’ve got that checked.

I got into Cornell and got waitlisted at Harvard, Columbia, Upenn and Brown with a 19.5/20.0 for the class of 2013. :)

I wouldn’t say you stand a very good chance with the ivies. Your grades are too low. Had they been over 19, you would’ve done fine. You need to be stronger academically. Your ecs are nice, but the ivies are looking for depths in your ecs, as well as engagement in your school - students’ council, different clubs maybe?
