Do any boarding schools (mainly Kent) require you to take a swim test of any kind?
Interesting…my kids had to take one in middle school before they got to BS, but not in BS. I think these required swimming tests are hitting earlier and earlier in the education systems.
I think Brewster mentioned that you had to because of the lake. I’m not sure if it was just for those doing water activities or for everyone, but it sounded like everyone.
I don’t recall what Kent requires but Kent offered lifeguard certification. I’m not sure if they still do. Hotchkiss has a required swim test, I believe, and they also offer a course in lifeguard certification.
PEA has a swim test for all incoming students. They also offer lifeguards certification courses.
Andover has a swimming requirement which, for entering 9th and 10th graders is met via the required phys ed class, and for those entering post-10th grade is via a swim test.
My kid never had to take a swim test at Kent. There is a swim and diving team, and I would be shocked if they let anyone crew who could not swim. I think they still offer certification too if someone wants that. I recall something about kiddo going to open swim, so it could be possible that Kent would swim test kids who want to do that though?
