I plan on taking the swimming class, seeing as how I don’t think I’ll pass the swim test. So I was wondering: how many people usually end up in each class? how many times a week does it meet?

I think there are usually about 10 people in the class, depending on how many the instructors let pink slip in. You can take a six week class that meets three times a week for fifty minutes or you can take a nine week class that meets twice a week for fifty minutes. Both of my coaches are the instructors this fall and they are awesome!!!

It’s great that you’re planning to take the class, but just in case you do not know: the swim test is just 2 laps, any stroke (even doggy paddle or random flailing) acceptable, no time limit. So long as you can keep afloat long enough to go back and forth twice without requiring rescue, you can pass. No judgment if you can’t stay up for two laps - that’s what the classes are there for. But some people opt out of the test because although they can keep themselves afloat just fine, they assume the test will be much more intense than that, and then end up taking a gym course they’d rather not because of missing information.

That said, even if you can pass the test, I’ve heard good things about our swim classes, and you’re welcome to sign up even if you have already fulfilled the swimming requirement. So it’s always available if you are interested, swimmer or no.

S1 passed the swim test by backfloating his two laps and occasionally flapping his arms and legs. He told us he wasn’t going to take the test, but I guess he changed his mind during O-Week. Shocked the heck out of us when he called and said he passed!
