Swimmning required at brown?

my first post…yay…and i’m concerned if brown requires its students some sort of swimming x number of laps in the pool as a requirment for graduation. i attended an info session for mit and harvard and they’re pretty anal about the swimming requirement, or is this an inside joke among the new england ivies…pls. clarify before i sell my soul to brown…

No. There are no requirements at Brown, hence there is no swimming requirement.

i dont remember hearing anything about swimming at brown, or havard for that matter. Im pretty sure brown doesnt have one (especially since they dont even require you to take classes for grades) Columbia said that the reason for their swim test is that when it was first instated it was so that if the british ever tried to take back manhattan, the students could swim across the river (i forget if it was the east river or the hudson, since this was back when Kings College was downtown)

Btw, Brown is a new england ivy, and MIT is not, so the “or is this an inside joke among the new england ivies” doesnt really work.

I dont know how to swim.

in that case…you’ve come to the right place!

I know Cornell has a swimming requirement (lets keep the jokes to a minimum, please…). As for Brown, there is no core curriculum, which includes any swimming requirement. I would have heard about it by now… I’m in the class of '09, and my sister just graduated from Brown this spring.
