Swimsuits?

It’s that time of year again. (ugh.)

I am looking everywhere for a swimsuit that will fit me and it does not seem to exist. I feel like I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find anything, I have a bottom that will work but no top. Can anybody help with brand recommendations or something?

Here is what I need:

Needs to come in bra cup sizes. Trust me, it won’t fit otherwise and I need the support of an underwire.

Needs to come in 34DD.

Needs to not be plus sized (this appears to be the problem.) I am around a size 10, curvy with a TINY waist. Plus size will be baggy, my old suit is the smallest in the plus size range and is too big around the middle this year.

I am looking for a tankini style top. I have a great black bottom from lands end, my normal go-to, but I don’t like their options this year for tops. I have about 20lbs to lose before I’d consider wearing something less modest and that won’t be happening in time for swimsuit shopping this year. :frowning:

Needs to be appropriate for a (modest) 23 year old.

I haven’t been able to find a suit in a department store since early childhood, S,M, and L sizes don’t ever fit my chest and lands end’s non-bra sizes put me in a size 16 which isn’t going to work either. I’m at a loss! Lands end cant be the only place that sells this stuff!

Help!?

Have it custom made. I know there is a place in NYC, and I am sure elsewhere (Paris). Check online.

Another option is zappos.com you can order several sizes and they have free returns. It’s usually what I do.

Lands End, LLBean and Eddie Bauer sell separates for two piece and tankini styles. I would suggest that. Getting a one piece will be a challange because you are not the same size top/bottom. A tankini is the best…you can get different sizes…and both halves will fit.

Try figleaves.com and freyalingerie.com

Zappos carries Tommy Bahama swimwear that comes in “conventional” bra sizes (I’m not sure about tankini tops, but the bra tops I got all came in band/cup sizing). Old colors get discontinued and sell at a decent discount, and Zappos has an unbeatable return policy. Here is a picture of one of the tops I have:

would something like this work for you?

I know you said a DD but may a D with stretcy fabric would work?

I love, love, love my Gottex swimsuit!

Check Victoria’s Secret. Their suits come in bra sizes and are separates.

No need for custom or squeezing into a smaller cup (ouch). My D shares your problem, so we’ve been down this road. Lindasonline.com sells bra sized swimwear, including separate tankini tops, some of which look pretty modest and many of which will go nicely with a black bottom. Fantasie, Freya and Panache are three brands this website carries. Figleaves.com, noted above also carries them. Sometimes you need to try both sites to find what you want since they sell out of sizes fast. The bad news is that they will cost you about $100–but, unlike the stuff at Victoria’s Secret (which doesn’t exactly specialize in modesty), they are well made and will last for years.

JCrew sells suits in cup sizes online.

Macy’s had great tankini separates last year, including several lines that had larger cup sizes. To save $, I bought the tops there and basic black bottoms at Target for $15.

Athleta solid bra cup twistini tankini top. #906265. 82% nylon, 18% spandex. Underwire bra with removeable padding.

BunsenBurner- we have missed you on the Dressing Young thread!
I am going to show some of these links to one of my D’s who needs a bra type top. No tankini for her. It is hard to get a 17 yr old to try on a more substantial top when until the last 6 months she could get by in a triangle bikini top.

I didn’t cave and go for the tankini until last summer. I look about 40lbs lighter in it, so I am all over the more substantial tops now. lol. I had a D cup as a 9 year old, though, so by the time I was interested in two piece suits I already needed bra tops.

You may find luck with some of the tie halter bikini tops-- not the “string” ones but the ones with thicker strips of fabric for the straps? Do you know what I’m talking about? That’s what I was wearing for a long time because they were much more substantial and supportive, but it didn’t look like I was TRYING to cover up more, that’s just the style of the suit. Mine was adorable and had a floating underwire and I loved it. I may actually wear it this summer if I can find a skirt bottom I don’t feel fat in that isn’t mid-rise… I’ll only wear the mid rise if I have a top long enough to cover how high up the bottoms go. I’m the same way about pants. This is how I ended up in a tankini to begin with, I decided to boycott “low-rise” everything (swimsuits, pants, etc) because it doesn’t fit me right and nobody my age appears to wear mid-rise anything ever.

mom60, sorry I was so busy - I missed my favorite thread. Here is one style your D might find attractive (it looks like the triangle thingy but offers more substantial coverage and support):

Solid black bottoms would work great with this top, IMO.

JC Penney has bra-sized tankini tops that are reasonably-priced. May be worth a try.

BunsenBurner- cute top. My D is the swimsuit queen. She is the Imelda Marcos of swimsuit ownership. Drawers full of suits yet she is always in the market for a new one. Usually she doesn’t need a new one but at this point she could use some more size appropriate tops.
