Switching back to old school - what will colleges think?

Hello CC,

I am planning to switch back to my old school - I’m wondering how that will affect college admissions.

I won’t go into too much detail, but I’ll give a brief summary of what has happened, and why I’d like to switch back.

I am an eleventh grader. This summer, I thought it would be cool to forget about my old life, my family, my sport, and my home and would be cool to go to MILITARY SCHOOL (boarding). Oh boy, how wrong I was. I miss all that I have left at home. This new school is full of idiots. I have learned NOTHING new - and I’ve signed up for more advanced clases. This is surely a joke. I must go home - back to my private day Catholic school. I must go back to my sport. I have a great chance of getting recruited for college just for this sport. My GPA is above a 3.95 - ACT’s are likely to be very good. I need to go back.

I’m most worried about how colleges will view this. If I write about it, I think I can explain how I was wrong, and how I should have listened to my parents. So an explanation is possible. But, even with that, how will a college view my lack of commitment and dumb spontaneity?

What I need to know is how much this will affect me in the college admissions process for TOP 20 schools, considering the fact that I have a great chance of being recruited by several of them.

Thank you.

Recovering from bad decisions is an important life skill. Don’t worry about this.

Anything else to add?

I can’t see how this could possibly effect you. You’re still doing well no matter where you are. You could even use this to your advantage in your essays, ie talk about what you learned about yourself from these experiences.
