So I go to community college in California and am looking to switch to a community college that is closer to me. I have a few questions though, like do all of my classes transfer? can I switch at the semester break? Do I have to do the orientation process again or can I just register and sign up for class right away?
You need to make an appointment with a counselor at the school you want to switch to, bring your unofficial transcripts where you’ve earned credit, and they will sit down and make sure things transfer over. Since it’s in the middle of the semester (for most people) I would recommend enrolling all of your classes next semester at the school you want to switch over to. You most likely don’t have to do the orientation over again, but that’s up to the school. You most likely won’t have to take placement tests over, and can just send them from your old school to your new school if they request them. You might want to take a tour or or an orientation thing if you have never been on the campus before or are totally unfamiliar with their services, but most community colleges are generally the same.
You can switch. Just make sure if you have any sequence courses, they’re (1) either finished at school #1, or (2) if splitting, you have verified that they can be split between colleges. It can be a huge problem if it isn’t done right.
